I think that the MTL trade is close and IMO Botterill will do magic with his picks, just as he did with Mittelstadt last year.

If Bergevin trades a potential game changer in the 3rd spot for O'Reilly who is more of a 2C IMO then I think that is the nail in his coffin.

I can't take another boneheaded 2003-2004 type mentality trade, DD I just can't.

Montreal is better off overpaying in free agency and keeping their draft picks then trading away top picks. They have margin on the cap space.

all depends whos are #3. if its the russian kid, then yes make that pick, but I think if Zadina is there, feel free to trade it for ROR.
He is a number #1C.
20:00 a night player
good on face offs
60+ point player
PP and PK player
can shut down other players
has always played against the other teams best player.

Thank you very much for your comment. I actually buggered on this, I thought it was the 4th over all pick (not that it matters much), but it is the 4th.

60 pts isn't 1C territory IMO. Sure he can do other stuff but you need to be able to produce at a high level to be a true 1C.

Tomas Plekanec in his prime
Averaged 20:00 minutes a game
70pts season
Good on face offs
Played both PP and PK
Shuts down other teams best players

Yet during his entire time in MTL, they never had a 1 #C...
ROR is a #2, probably one of the best, but that’s it.
MTL better not make that deal.

you obviously want more then 60 points from a 1C but 61 points puts him in the top 35 Centers in the NHL and that is including lots of players who have a Center designation according to NHL.com but they actually player mostly wing.
and since 2014 till now, his P/G puts him in the company of Ryan Johansen, Logan Couture, and Jonathan Toews who are All Number 1 centers.
Obviously he isn't an elite scorer, but those Centers are rare and hense why there are only maybe 10 elite point producing Centers in the game, but ROR is an efficient option that fits every need MTL needs right now.

Couture, Toews & Johansen are more like 1B/2A guys down the middle even though RyJo plays 1C. I'm talking about elite Cs (Toews used to be). If you are trading a possible elite player, you want to get an elite player back. ROR is not elite.

Thank you for taking the time to respond, I agree with you this is too much for O'Reilly. I just wanted to get feed back to see if my evaluation was accurate.

Try to explain this to Sabre fans. I posted O'Reilly for Byron, Lindgren, and MTL 35th and 38th, universally decried as a sell out and I undervalued O'Reilly.

well MTL has no 1B/2A/3C types of centers.
and sure that #3 could be elite or just be a good NHL player. I dont think MTL has time to gamble on that at this point.

but either way, Im fine with either option. Im also really for drafting at #3.
