Is the conditional first for 2019 or 2020?

That trade actually makes sense, but Melnyk would have to look like an absolute "genius" to make it happen. (Lots of Ottawa fans would be mad, others may not) The results would have to be Fabbri's game turns towards as good as Brayden Schenn was last season blues, to make this a nice trade for Ottawa. I personally, don't believe Fabbri is that "good" of a Mike Hoffman worth player, but the conditional first adds up for it. Plus, I definitely don't see the key "franchise peice" in Mike Hoffman leaving anytime soon. But good insights! I hope Fabbri puts up 60+ points next year no matter what happens! smile

Considering how good Hoffman and Duchene played together I'm not keen on trading him. I actually really like Fabbri but it just seems too much of an unknown for a team that could use less of that.

Fabbri is that good of a player. Think Ehlers with slightly less speed, but a lot more grit. The only question for Fabbri is health at this point

Good basis for the trade but as others have mentioned, Fabbri's injury history is really up in the air. i think that conditional 1st needs to be guaranteed UNLESS Fabbri scores 50+ pts.

Why do this deal otherwise if your Ottawa? Trading a sure thing asset for a kid with potential whose had incredibly bad injuries back to back and a late 2nd round. The condition of Fabbri having to play at least 55 games is a gamble that sin't that worthy. What if he plays 60 games and scores 20 points because he isn't the same player after his injury?

This feels like all the risk is on Ottawa here.

Don't get me wrong, I like Fabbri, he's an excellent player. Had a terrific World Junior Championship. He just hasn't proven himself yet that he's as good as Ehlers. Whether he puts up the numbers this next season depends on his health and I think he can do it. Here's Fabbri's rookie season. Put up 37 points in 72 games, and Ehlers, 38 points in 82 games. The only exception after the fact, is Ehlers broke out for two 60 points plus seasons, and Fabbri's gone down and had injury issues. I'll say it again, I like Fabbri, I just want him to see him live up to his worth.

I don't argue Ehlers has more value. (He also played with a better second line than Fabbri in his second year). I'm saying if Fabbri would have stayed healthy he'd be on a similar trajectory. Their styles are very similar. As of now, Ehlers has much more value.

Agreed. But we have to see it happen first.
