Description
Looking at what Ryan O'Reilly does for the Sabres, I don't think we can afford to let him go.

1. Best faceoff man in the league

2. 55-60+ points every season he's played in BUF

3. 3 consecutive 20+ goal seasons with BUF

4. Still young and has plenty of term at a decent salary hit

5. Awesome defensively

6. Won the Lady Byng trophy in 2013-14 (nominated this year)

7. Only 84 PIM over 651 NHL games (2 PIM in 81gp this season)

8. 457 career takeaways to 157 giveaways (that's amazing)

9. Works hard and puts in extra time at practice

10. He's a center. A center of his caliber is extremely hard to find

11. He is a complete workhorse, played the most minutes of any forward in 2016-17

12. His Corsi and Fenwick are positive.

All of these while playing for the worst team in modern era hockey

It's gonna hurt if we trade him for any less than a Kings ransom.

Had no clue of these stats but when you think about it the sabres aren’t building around him, it’s dahlin and Eichel. They need to trade him for players that can help Eichel 8-10 years from now, they can use those stats of his to get a very good peice(s) in return such as a young goalie prospect and high draft pick

I like ROR a lot, but this team needs to get better and moving ROR is the best way to fill multiple holes in one fell swoop.

8-10 years from now is at least 2 GMs away if it takes you that long to be competitive

You should probably just drop the Montreal trade, it makes 0 sense. For 1 thing Girgensons is a 4th liner and wouldn't get you a 3rd rounder, a 4th or 5th from a team needing some left wing depth maybe. Montreal is not a team that needs left wing depth. Girgensons had 15 points in 71 games, even if Galchenyuk and Drouin are both playing centre next season Montreal has 4 left wingers who scored more than that, and one that had 1 fewer point in 13 fewer games. It's not an important part of the post so it doesn't really matter, but it just looks bad.

I dont like the idea of moving quality for quantity. Its generally assumed that the team that got the best player "won" the trade. I wouldnt question his salary, his talent, or his work ethic. He is however a defacto leader in a toxic locker room, and im not privy to which side of jackass lane hes standing on. Winning tends to cover up such things, so either way, fixing the d could make them less fractured. Hes also playing a high value position which we just so happen to have young talented depth at. If the right offer comes along, call it a young talented d, preferably rhd, or an extremely high draft pick, he could shake loose. Im not selling "low" and im not moving him for several lesser pieces though.

Agreed 100%. oreilly is one of the most under rated guys in the NHL. No need to move him at all. There are other ways to improve your roster

The problem with keeping ROR is that you can't really spend any thing to upgrade a guy like Robin Lehner. Robin Lehner is decent at best. and if you say Buffalo will spend 4 million on Riley Nash then there is no reason to keep O'Reilly. My thought is give up a guy like O'Reilly for a 3rd line center, or a Goalie Upgrade with Draft picks for both routes. I'm not necessarily saying Quantity over quality, but If I'm buffalo I would rather get a Grubauer, or a Pickard. Because without good goaltending your still sitting back watching playoffs take place without you. Washington already signed a Goalie Prospect that is ready for NHL. Grubauer's stats are 2.35 GAA and .923 SV PCT, and that is the stats of a starting goaltender.

Very very true, unless theyre addressing all of their holes and making the team deeper and more complete (i still want a stud coming back, quality and quantity). Thats why i laugh when people are selling him off for 31 yr old wingers and backup goalies. While youre talking value though, McCabe is worth much, much more than a second. Thats throwing him away

What do you think the cap ceiling is going to be. RORs cap hit is not that large

Shibbal, what do you think of this lineup? I love it because it is totally 100% realistic. All we need to have this lineup is to sign 2 3rd tier free agents. We have great center depth, our wings look good, Dahlin, Guhle, and Pilut help round out and solidify the defense and Ullmark comes in to stabilize the goaltending while competing with Lehner.

      All areas are improved

Id rather move Scandella than McCabe. But its pretty decent. Id like to see Vanek with Reinhart on this specific roster, it also take pressure off of Nylander

I think Scandella is a better fit to help Dahlin develop. He's pretty good defensively and has a bomb of a shot. But I do like McCabe and he's still RFA so there's something to be said for that. As for Vanek with Reinhart, I wouldn't mind it, but I'd like to see Nylander get some chemistry going with his long term teammates in O'Reilly and Reinhart

Im not very worried about Dahlin's development. The only thing they can do to negatively impact his development is restrict him and make him learn the NA style. Dahlin's game is his creativity. Thats why I've been putting him with McCabe. Let McCabe worry about being a stay at home. he does have the wheels to join the rush if need be, but hes also physical and responsible. McCabe is very smart too, which will help Dahlin, but aldo help McCabrle cut down on any rookie mistakes. Scandellas decent, I think McCabe is looking like he will surpass Scandella's level soon plus the age difference, I'd much rather keep McCabe. If I had to sell him it would only be to bring back a piece that helps the team. A 2nd isnt going to do that, at least not for a few year if at all
