take hayes out of the deal and its good otherwise no thanks this years draft is very deep and i would rather keep all the picks and fetch a 1st and a good prospect for namestikov alone than give up all that for 1 prospect.

the rangers aren't trading 9th overall though.. it's 26 and a later pick. Svechnikov is a laine type player, not something you want to pass up. rangers haven't had a pure goal scorer in a long time. As good as hayes and namestnikov are, i would rather have svechnikov with giving up both players and later picks. deal could happen with either carolina at 2 or mtl at 3. We can afford to lose both hayes and namestnikov because we have andersson and chytil behind zibanejad. Also tavares will get offered something from the rangers.

if kovy does sign the lines would be

kovy-zibanejad-svechnikov
Kreider-Chytil-Buchnevich
Zucc-Andersson-Spooner
Vesey-Howden-Fast

and a 1% chance of being

Kovy-Tavares-Svechnikov
Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich
Chytil-Andersson-Zucc
Vesey-Howden/Spooner-Fast

The problem is both the Canes and Habs need offense bad and the top-4 draft prospects are all forwards. I could see the Canes passing on Svechnikov to take Zadina, a center, which they also really need, I just don't see the Habs willing to pass up on drafting a player that could potentially play in the NHL this upcoming season.

Your logic is undeniable, but the trade above is:
Namestnikov, V.
Hayes, K.
2018 1st round pick (BOS)
2018 1st round pick (TBL)
2018 3rd round pick (BOS)
2018 2nd round pick (NJD)

which I don't think anyone really imagines NYR offer, but if they do, I'm pretty sure MTL accepts. If not, maybe there's a three way trade involving Carolina possible?

Yeah I took a look at your deal. Maybe if the Rangers 9th overall pick was somehow included here instead of one TBL or BOS 1st rounders a deal might get done. The underlying problem I see with such a deal is that both of these teams are rebuilding. Perhaps you take a wider approach to this deal and think of a team that is not in such a position (Chicago comes to mind), find a fair deal to acquire their top pick and then with the 8th and 9th overall picks, you made a deal with the Canes to aquire the second overall pick. I don't know either player too well, but I would say that Chicago could use players like Namestnikov and Hayes more so than drafting in the top 10 to acquire a player who may not be ready for 2-4 years when drafting in the 20's would get them something similar. Just a thought.

If the trade doesn’t involve either a young top pairing left handed defenceman or a top line center it doesn’t happen for MTL. Zadina and Svechnikov are both to good to pass up for anything less.

Pronouns? This is not my deal. I'm just noting that it looks like a pretty good one.

Edit: but I get your point about there being something else NYR could offer that would be more appealing to a team hoping to add long term top talent, rather than just a bunch of pretty good young players.
