The Devils Made Me Do It

Équipe: 2018-19 Canadiens de Montréal
Date de création initiale: 22 mars 2018
Publié: 24 avr. 2018
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
NOTE: This assumes Pacioretty agrees to sign an extension with NJ as part of the deal.

New Jersey was the surprise team of the year in the East, but it was no fluke. The core of this team is very solid with Butcher having emerged very quickly and Hall having got over the pain of being dumped by the Oilers. Pacioretty would be a step up on the wing over Zacha, whose talents are wasted there. Shaw would be a perfect Devil and his cap hit, after the Habs retained half, would be tiny.

Zacha is a solid 2-3 centreman. McLeod's upside is really unknown at this point. The skill set is excellent but he missed half the season. He would be a bit of a gamble for the Habs, but they liked him the year they took Sergachev at #9.

A discounted Petry would replace Luke Schenn on the RD and help AZ with some veteran leadership. Merkley is a promising young forward, one of dozens the Coyotes have in the system. With Panik, Fischer on the RW and a decent chance at getting Svechnikov, Zadina or Tkachuk, the Coyotes are deep in young wings.

Kings need to get faster and younger. Habs need a #1 centreman. Carter is really now more a #2, but he can fill in while the Habs hope for one of McLeod, Poehling, Zacha or whoever they get with the LAK's #20 (Lundestrom, Valeno, Olofsson, McBain, Hallander).

Yes, sorry, that assumes Max signs an extension as part of the move. I'll add that in.

What I was really going for is depth. Adding Carter, Nash, Zacha and McLeod gives the Habs a tree of centremen ranging from 32 to 20. There's still Danault and JDLR. I couldn't resist giving Pleks a one-year deal with the understanding that he has a job of turning Zacha into a Pleks-clone, which he might want to do for the sake of Czech's national team.

Love Carter, so.... yeah.

You're right that New Jersey has a good window right now and Pacioretty is a perfect "Metropolitain" player. You might have to sweeten the deal to get Zacha (as the fellow above mentioned), but at its core, this is a win-win.

Thanks for the 5 stars!!!

On Carlson, he's the top UFA blueliner. He'll be getting offers well north of $7M, so to get him psyched to come to MTL.... The trade off is that it's just 5 years. Ideally, I'd even want to have 4 years, but I think he'd want at least 5.

Thanks for the 5 stars, too. Perhaps one of the second rounders or one of the 3-4 good Dmen in the Habs system would interest the Devils as a sweetener?

Kings have to give a pick in that trade? Little chance that the Canadiens allow Jersey negotiate with Patches, and it's still too much for Devils to give up anyway. Why do Arizonas trade a promising winger, just to give Montreal cap space?

I like it!... for MTL
I don't think anyteam can't give away 2 young NHLready Center... even for a 30+g scorer... even if they have Hischier & Quenneville (under 20)
You will need to sweeten the deal with a good 2nd (MTL has plenty!) or add JDL.
IN regards of L.A.... not sure if they are ready to give up on Carter but it's a great idea to get younger in L.A... and Chucky would be the perfect assets against...
Add Alzner and take Muzzin and forget the 1st pick.... you will be the one that will need to give a 2nd pick= Chucky + Alzner+ 2nd for Carter, Muzzin.
9M seems alot but no choice in MTL... it's like everyone going after JT for 11-11,5... in MTL it will be 14-15M/y.
Last... No Riley Nash... Go after JVR or we don't need extra wingers... let the kids play cheers
Why 4 stars instead of 5... not sure about your LHD... even with Moore addition.

Good trades. Im never keen on trading chucky but I think this one works out in MTL favor. Like you said filling the hole until one of our young guys pans out to be that guy. Carter is good for 50-60 points, especially beside guys like Drouin and even gally. I like Zacha and I like McLeod. really good stuff overall!

Gracias for the "cinco estrellas". I think Chucky is one of those players who will thrive in a new dressing room. Carter is a pro and the late-ish first-round pick offers some good options.

How is Andrew Shaw "the perfect devil" haha I think you would need to add for the devils to mortgage their future. Trading two lottery pick centers who are 21 and 20 is tough especially when you are on the upswing.

Shaw has the Tasmanian Devil tattooed on his soul. Zacha might have been a lottery pick, but he has fallen back in the pack based on his performance. In a redraft, he'd be in the mid-teens or low 20s. And if he's marking time on the LW, he's worth trading for a current asset. Pacioretty for Zacha is, as a 1-for-1 is probably not quite enough. McLeod is borderline top-50 recruit, which I don't say as a knock. He's a very solid prospect, but still some ways from making an impact on the NHL. Shaw, at $1.9M, is a very useful warrior on a team that got well and truly beaten by Tampa. McLeod-for-Shaw, as a 1-for-1, would not be enough for the Devils.

So I sort of simply looked at it as 1 (Pacioretty) + 4 (Shaw) = 2 (Zacha) + 3 (McLoed). Is there one more piece to slip in? Perhaps. What would you suggest? One of the young D (Lernout, Brook, Fleury, Walstrom...) or one of the more experienced forwards (JDLR, Hudon, Byron, Deslaurier, McCarron....). Happy to revisit.

Okay so let's trade the 6'3 big bodied 21 year old Center who was great in faceoffs and at the position itself in the second half (not sure where you are pulling he played wing). I feel like you are truly downplaying how long it takes certain players to develop and it's going against the Devils current strategy to trade two great skating, skilled centers for a great winger who is 29 and Andrew Shaw who couldn't stick handle himself out of a paper bag. I like Zacha's progress this year he truly learned how to play to his skill set and with some more time and development he can be the perfect 2nd center on the team. Mcleod I am fine with trading for Patches in some sort of deal but I'd honestly rather get a winger like Mike Hoffman since his age and kill set fall more in line with this team.

I almost only ever saw him on the wing and playing high in the D zone. If that is in incorrect reading of how he was deployed, then it's a moot point.

Like Toronto fans and their visceral hatred for Plekanec (until last night), you greatly underestimate what Shaw brings when he's on the ice. He is exactly the kind of player that the Devils were missing in the first round: a versatile, energetic, nasty prick. And at $2M for 3 years, he'd be one of the best bargains in the league.

Well I watched basically 60+ games this year and he was on the wing at times early but was their number 2 center down the stretch and was great at the position. For Shaw, I'm not overlooking that ability, they already have guys like Blake Coleman and Miles Wood to be that type of guy. In terms of losing to the Lightning, Shaw wouldn't be nearly enough to get them over that hill, that team is simply too good and too balanced for the devils who are just beginning to contend if you would even say that they were contenders this year. Shaw would be a better fit on a team that is currently contending and inst coming off a rebuild, but rather looking to get over the hump.
