This is a horrendous deal for the Sabres......

ROR has 5 years reaming on his deal with consistent not spectacular produciton

Patches one year then UFA
McNiven 21 year old goaltender not what the Sabres need at this time
De La Rose a young center/LW who may or may not break out down the line
a 2nd Round pick

The Sabres have to say this is a hard pass.

Although he’s a really good player,
i don’t think Patch works for the Sabres bc of his age & contract situation

Would u trade Brady Tkachuk for O’Reilly though?

2 or 3 years ago the Wild might have said yes. Now they just hang up.

I agree lol. I don't know who the Habs could offer maybe Galchenyuk, Juulsen? Doesn't make that much sense to trade ROR in the first place but everyone in Buffalo seems to think he's gone... He would be a great fit for the Habs but I don't think they have the pieces to make it work.

Brodin is not Erik Karlsson here, and they'd still be getting a very skilled offensive forward of the same age. This one I think is actually realistic.

Interesting but I think I would pass. Tkachuk has big time upside and you need highly skilled young players on the cheap to succeed in the cap era. I wouldn't give that up for ROR...

Well ROR created this mess by stating in his year end presser (hard to believe that players now have a year end presser.... they never really say anything.... if they were more like John Mcenroe that would be interesting) when he stated that losing has become acceptable on this team and that he at numerous times during the season lost his love for the game of hockey.

That has created this environment from the fan base that he needs to go. I think they need to move him because he does not fit Housley & Botterill's overall idea of their team. Fast fast fast carry the puck into the zone. ROR is not fast enough and due to this limitation he will chip and chase the puck in the offensive zone.

All I know is that I am tired of paying for my season tickets and getting a ho hum effort on the ice.

Fair enough
Just curious as to what O’Reilly’s perceived value is around the league
I personally wanna keep him,
but some Sabres fans think he’ll be overpaid if Mittelstadt turns out to be as good as we think & becomes our 2C

If u guys don’t get Tavares (u likely won’t),
and u try to get O’Reilly from us...
I’m guessing it would take either your #4-7 pick or Galchenyuk (assuming our GM likes him)
Or maybe a couple high end prospects?
Something like that anyways

Supposedly (according to LeBrun & another expert- i forget which one), there is a lot of interest in O’Reilly IF we’d be interested in moving him
So u might have to outbid some other teams if u want him

We might not even move him though
Our GM says we are keeping him,
but i guess that’s what all GMs say...
so who knows?
Lol

Not if you take into account team needs. Wild don't have Scandella anymore, and Suter isn't a given to be healthy to start next season. Chucky is skilled, but he had more value was as a center, not another LHS winger (Wild have too many as it is).

MTL killed Chucky's value by not playing him as a center. It's not like he was pushed to wing because MTL had a Crosby/Malkin type of center depth.

Ah I gotcha, I didn't see his full comments. What are the biggest team needs that they will look to address in a trade for ROR in your opinion? Maybe D? Seems like with Mittlestadt and Eichel buffalo can be pretty good down the middle...

Lol yeah I think if I'm the Sabres GM I'd probably still keep him. I'd give up Galchenyuk in a trade for ROR, even though we lose on age, the need at C is just so great. Tavares is indeed a longshot, and I think Paul Statsny might be the only other decent option, so for sure the interest will be extremely high in ROR from mtl. Will be interesting to see how far Bergevin is willing to go...

Well this team needs everything from D to a decent mascot...... tired of that rat ******* Sabretooth.

I would rank the priorities as follows:

1. Young players or prospects;
2. Draft choices Round 1-3;
3. RD who can carry the puck up the ice and put shots on net;
4. A LW that can play in the offensive zone as well as play in the defensive zone with speed;

I personally could live with ROR on the team for another year as I do not want Mittelstadt being pushed to play that #2 Center. That would be the wrong thing to do for the future of the organization.

In order to maximize the return in a ROR deal I would be open to a bad contract if that contract expires 2018/2019 or 2019/2020. I would not want to go past that point as I expect that in 2020/2021 this team will be competitive.

Someone like Bozak or Riley Nash could be options for u guys too, but then you’re likely overpaying 2nd tier type players... that’s usually a bad idea
U guys do need to get that center position solved though
U can probably turn Patch into a good young center, and swap Galchenyuk for a pretty good one too
Obviously that leaves u thin on the wings,
but it easier to slot guys in as replacements there
Right now, you’re in a spot to get Tkachuk or Wahlstrom, so there ya go with one replacement
Although, u guys might wanna take one of the good young defensemen who will also be available
Seems like Montreal has a bit of a makeover to do
Idk about your GM though?
He’s made some bad moves the last couple years
How do the fans feel about him?
