The Chucky-Tkachuk Connection

Équipe: 2018-19 Canadiens de Montréal
Date de création initiale: 15 mars 2018
Publié: 15 mars 2018
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Habs get the #3 pick in the lottery. Julien makes the argument for a nastier, more energetic team. Bergevin skips over the remaining of Zadina/Svechnikov and drafts Brady Tkachuk, who is converted to a left-shooting RW.

Habs make hockey trades with Calgary and Minnesota and clear out other players for draft picks.

Still lots of cap room for UFAs.

Meh. Not sure this team will be able to score at all. If you're going to bruisers, why trade Shaw? You've got ooodles of cap space.

Hudon & Lehkonen are better than Pleky & JDL.
Value is probably there for Calgary but I don't think they would trade Tkachuk for Pacc.
And Coyle can't suddenly become a NHL- 1C

Hey, Coyle is better than any option the Habs have now. And if you look at the limited minutes Coyle logs and the points he generates, given some speedy wingers and the job of being a crease monster, I'd like to see him try. Obviously, the Habs would continue to hunt for that great new "#1C" but he ain't coming in this draft -- unless Brady Tkachuk can be developed at C.

Coyle was an awesome centreman in junior. He's not too old to go back.

True... it's better than everyone we have right now! So for Coyle after the number you showed... Lindgren & Byron is enough?

There's no point in wasting Hudon and Lehkonen on fourth-line duty and they don't fit up front, so the idea was get something for all those bits a pieces -- 3rd, 4ths, 5ths -- and just shoot for the moon in the draft. If even one of those later picks is the next Gallagher, it would be worth it.

Think so. Wild don't have a goalie in the pipeline and Byron gives them a feisty winger at 1/3 the price of Coyle. Byron has 29 points to Coyle's 32.

I understand but would keep One or Both for Depth because of the high injury risk all NHL team has... look at Winnipeg situation right now

Obviously you won't trade anyone who you can send to Laval, but both those guys would be lost on waivers. You could keep them and dump Froese and Deslaurier (or Lazar), but then everyone's frustrated.

Tkachuk is as untouchable as it gets in CGY but the value isn't all that bad.

Played just one season on Saint John, with Huberdeau and Jurco. The #1 was Zack Phillips, who looked like Crosby in junior (never really developed though), but Coyle was dominant in the Memorial Cup run. .

OK. So let's sweeten it with a 3rd? or will it take a 2nd?

Crap, I was worried someone would say that. How about we add one of the 3Ds Montreal picked in 2017 -- Brook, Fleury or Walstrom. Or is there someone like Hudon or Lehkonen. I had already moved them to the curb too.

If the Habs opt to rebuild, one Tkachuk is one of the few players I'd consider moving Gallagher to get. Are you thinking 1-for-1?

Just for fun, let's imagine it the other way and Montreal drafted Brady Tkachuk and offered Galchenyuk. Interested? What you you send east for those two players?

I would send you my first rd pick in 2019 ( basically swapping 2018 1st rd pick in brady tkachuk for next years 1st rdr) and a goalie prospect in jon Gillies . I would also send you tj Brodie, a second pairing D man.

Not sure trading a player picked with the #4 overall is replaceable with just another #1 pick for a team that's ascending. Brodie and Gillies might be a good trade for Galchenyuk alone, though I'm not sure.

How about: Galchenyuk and the #4 pick (Tkachuk) for Valimaki, Parsons and Dube and the option to swap #1s in either 2019 or 2020?

WHOA!! Buddy, you're trading Chucky -- a proven NHLer and a top, top pick -- a man-child by all accounts, with three prospects and THE OPTION to swap? No. No. No. BAD DEAL. Just keep Brady Tkachuk and let him do the nasty crashing work for Drouin.
