Marner for Trouba - Stastny stays

Description
Interested in Toronto fans' take on a Trouba for Marner straight up hockey trade. I'd rather see the Jets find a way to resign Trouba long term but if they can't come to terms, this may be an option. Something would have to give for 2019-20 but an expansion draft may move a big contract like Perreault to help make space for the RFAs.

I've also added a couple trades of Jet's prospects who are highly skilled but the Jets cannot find a role for on the main squad. Dano, Petan and Appleton deserve a crack at regular minutes in the NHL. Jets add some picks to help keep a steady supply of prospects coming up through the Moose.

Makes sense for both sides. I think its a good trade, although I would think Jets need Trouba more than they need a Marner.

I agree...I can't see them doing a trade like that as the Jets don't need another good young winger. Maybe for a pick plus Timothy Ljilgren(or however u spell it)

Trouba a Hell of an player, but Marner perhaps a year away from being Elite! Can argue the merits, but this might be a deal that neither team would want to make! Pretty sure in any deal for Trouba, Winnipeg would be looking for top 4 LD, in package, as top 6-9 forwards, are pretty scary as is, and solid depth behind it!

You couldn't possibly need more offensive fire power? That's just greedy....

If NHL relocates Winnipeg to the Eastern conference then I'm good with this tradeawesome face

I looked around the league, and the teams that are in desperate need of a top pairing RHD really only have forward assets to provide back. Philly has a stocked left side but with Morrissey, Kulikov, Nico, Chariot and Stanley in the system, the Jet's aren't desperate for a LHD.

I agree. I hope that the drama of two years ago is behind them but if Trouba isn't committed long term to Winnipeg, they have to move on.

Trouba/Vesalaninen for Marner/Liljegren/Leivo looks solid in my books. Marner would fit so well in the Top 6 for WPG while Trouba would solidify TOR defensive issues. I have high hopes for Vesalaninen so honestly if I'm WPG I'm hesitant on trading a Finnish born player especially with Laine around. Country connection is more important than it looks plus I believe he has a high ceiling if coached correctly. Either way it's a great trade and I like the small/medium sized contract you gave Hellebuyck. A bridge deal in some aspects but also a value contract. Helle is young but man... this kid can play. Reminds me of Matt Murray and the contract he signed with PIT a few seasons back. Love the ideas man. Nice job!

Appreciate the feedback! I'm high on Vesalainen as well. With Ehlers, Conner, Perreault and Vesalainen on LW and Wheeler, Laine, Marner and Armia on RW, Scheifele, Stastny, Little and Roslovic would have dream line combinations to work with.

Sami Nicu is leading the AHL in defence scoring and they have committed term to Kulikov and Chariot. Once Morrissey is resigned, I don't see the Jets anxious about their left side. Stanley is a long-term project who will need a couple more years. Still like the short handed defence pairing of Myers and Stanley one day. 13'6" of Defence. Put Lowry and Wheeler up front and you have an average height of 6'7".

I like Trouba as much as the next guy but there's nothing there to support he's elite. He's a very good player and could still get better but he has no business being in the same conversation as guys like Jones, Werenski, McCavoy, Provorov, Ekblad, etc etc. This isn't a slouch against Trouba, I reiterate, i like him. Just think fans like putting him in a category before he's actually proven he belongs there yet.

My point in all this is that i think Marner in less time is closer to elite than Trouba is. I know wingers are less valuable than dmen generally but that only works if both players are of equal calibre in their respective positions and I think Marner is a notch higher. That doesn't mean Trouba can't still get there. He's still young too but from what I've seen. He is being slightly overhyped IMO. (That isn't saying he is bad, simply hyped higher than he should be)

Again it's term of the term of the trade that makes it undesirable for the Leafs. Trouba has two years till UFA, and Marner five years. And if Nylander does go to centre, Marner is needed at RW more than ever.

What do you think would be a fair return for Trouba for the Jets if they didn't believe they could get him to sign long-term?

Its tough because having that fact hover over Chevy's head is leverage against him. If Im Chevy, I trade him only if I get full value back and if not simply hang on to him as long as possible. Even if that means sitting him. Get him to sign a long term contract and then move him to one of the teams of his choosing afterwards but only once the power shifts back to Chevy's hands.

As for return, I have no idea. It really comes down to a case by case situation. What the needs of PG are, what the other team has to offer. Its a pretty tough gauge right now to be honest.

I haven't heard any negativity coming from Trouba or his douche of an agent for quite a while. Kurt Overhardt is due to mangle some young star's career again so I wouldn't be shocked if he classically overplays Trouba's hand.

Honestly if Trouba does really want out, he went about it the worst way. Can't believe his agent advised him on this. Trouba could of been traded already if he really wanted to be.

Might need to be conditional on Trouba signing a 6-7 year extension first in order to ensure a significant period of control for the Leafs.

Then in might be real. But Trouba who just completed a two year contract for less money seems hell bent to for free agency.

Oh, I intended to resign him for so much money that Trouba would be laughing and the leafs would be hamstrung by his contract for ages. rock on

laugh Marner for Trouba first off Winnipeg is seeking top 4 LHD/RHD not more forwards that they don't need. And Trouba wants to play in the States not crap hole Canada that taxes players to death. Trouba hates Toronto and has made it known. No way Trouba would play in Toronto.
