Sidney Crosby, C'mon Down!!! (redone)

Description
Redone because all comments were suddenly lost.

KEY CHANGES:
Sheahan out,
Lehkonen subbed in for a second pick
Shaw traded to make room for UFA signing (Stastny?)

3 KEY ASSUMPTIONS:
1) Habs have a top-5 pick;
2) Pens lose early in the playoffs and much handwringing ensues;
3) Crosby wants to do this;

Yes, I realize this is putting all the eggs in one basket, but what a basket! This creates a core of Price, Weber, Drouin and Crosby to grow old together. There must be a few Cup runs left in the old guys.

Serious question: what would it take? Assuming Crosby wants to do the deal and finish up in Montreal (big assumption) and the Pens look to build a new foundation on picks and prospects, what would you think it takes to get the deal done?

Remember Crosby’s 30 and Pitt has Malkin/Brassard/Sheahan/Rowney down the middle! That’s a lot ur gettin for him. From business stand point, this is great. From a personal stand point, prob not, but this would b the best deal for him in the business world!

I like it. The Habs are invested in Price and Weber, and Drouin and Chucky need a real mentor up front. Picks won't do it. Sorry, but Poehling and Scherback, 2 firsts and 2 seconds might get the ball rolling. How much are 2 Stanley Cups worth to you?

It only works if Shero (oops, I meant Rutherford) is ready to drop some cap and renovate. It also only works for Montreal if the nucleus of the team that's there now -- Pacioretty included -- hangs together. Not sure of the right conditions are in place, but it would be fun to see.

I was afraid you'd say that. Poehling looks so promising, it's hard to give him up.

If it even was a possibility at least 1 or 2 roster players like paccioretty/ weber/ galchenyuk and at least 1 or 2 good prospects and a couple 1sts and maybe a 2nd or another pick thats conditional. But the reality is he doesnt want to leave and any gm with brains wouldnt trade him and fans obviously wont want thim gone so that return just wont get you him because hes simply not available.

It's true, and Mario would obviously have a huge effect on whatever he is thinking. But if Mario and Rutherford told him that the best thing he could do for the Pens is help them secure their future, while going to a team that, with him, would be very competitive, I like to think he'd listen.

But the reality is, thats not happening any time soon. Their main 3.....Malkin and kessel are locked up on their cheap deals for another 5 years and crosby is locked up on his cheap deal for even longer with 8 years. Pens are going to to be good for a while.

Agreed, but then they'll be really, really bad again. I was trying to head that off.
