Description
First time posting here.
I believe Montreal is underperforming this year. Price has not been himself this fall and the team spent most of the season without it's no1 D (and when he was playing it was on one foot).
I believe habs need to fill 3 key positions:
#1 C, #2 C, #2 D.
I tried to create a balanced team mostly built on speed.
This is how I would like things to go down from now on:
End of 2017-2018 season: Bergevin is fired and replaced with Julien Brisebois as GM.
Habs draft Brady Tkachuk at no. 5.
Pacioretty is traded after the draft for D Martinez.
Both Price and Weber manage to convince Tavares to join them in Montreal comes July 1st.
Tavares becomes the best payed player in the league et 13 000 000$
Brisebois manages to sign UFA Backlund, but doesn't manage to trade Alzner terrible contract, who's bought out.
Montreal's management finally adressed the teams biggest flaws:
They finally have a strong centre line where everyone sits in their rightfull chair.
They aquired the #2 D they needed so badly during 2017-2018 season.

Well if that's your first post you did a hell of a job! You made a number of assumptions (ie: Tavares, BackLund, Tkachuck,), that is optomistic at best but until it happens or not is simply your ideals. What you Didn't do is all the more impressive. Most Montreal posters have unrealistic assumptions re: player values. Instead of thinking Alzner gets you a 1st and a prospect. . You buy him out. Your Patches trade is realistic, and I have seen everything from Draisaitl to McKinnon and 2 1st for him. Your Calgary trade is optomistic, but Calgary could use a Shaw in their lineup so even that might work! All in all GOOD WORK (And don't let the haters get you)

Good god that Pacioretty one is an awful trade. You're severly overrating Martinez, he's more of a #4 than a #2.

I would shift the pick to 2020 otherwise LA could get the pick and then resign Pacioretty before season starts. Also if he hits 30 goals this season, maybe even 25, proving he isn't likely to regress heavily for at least a few more seasons the pick might go the other way, Martinez is a good 2nd pairing guy but I don't think he is quite good enough to be valued as a legitimate #2 dman. From what I have seen, which is a small sample size, Kylington is not even a 3rd pairing dman in that set up. I don't mind the contract and having him as a spare but another pick would be more valuable. Maybe Benn regresses but he is playing quite well and has earned his spot, Jerabek seems to be finding his game and Juulson likely would have made the team out of camp this year if not for injury, which Mete took advantage of and hasn't really disappointed. Would rather see Alzner traded to a desperate team for a mid rounder but the buyout is an acceptable option.

If MB somehow manages to sign both Tavares and Backlund, than that Pacioretty trade makes a bit more sense. Tavares and Backlund fix the offense / center issues, MTL still would have a load of left wingers, so use him to fix the defense. I'd try and just make it a 1 v 1 swap and remove the 2nd though.

I think the return for Shaw is on the weaker side, but I guess it becomes a necessity to move him for cap reasons.

Cap is tight, but you're still running a 25 man roster, so it can be manageable. all in all, looks good!

Yeah you're way over-valuing Alex Martinez there no way is he worth Pacioretty+2nd plus Detroit's bringing home Martinez for Tatar any ways.smile

It's a very uptimistic lineup, as I said in the title this is if we hit jackpot on the UFA market.
Martinez logs 24 min a night in LA, second most on his team. I don't see him play often, but he appears to me as a no 2 D for the few LA games I watched...
I would have prefered to go for Muzzin, but I expect LA fans to decline (Am I wrong??)
As for my lineup, I don't understand how to apply the cap penality for Alzner's buyout... If applied, I would not have signed Pleky and replaced him with De La Rose

I think that's too much for Backlund. I've read he is looking for a $5.5Mx6 type of deal to stay im Calgary. A $6Mx6 from the Habs should be enough. Also, what happened to Alzner?

Good first effort, but the one thing you have to consider with these things is the long term outlook. Being reliant on so many elc contracts really puts your team in a tough spot even with a steady cap increase year over year.
