Description
TOR needs a top 4D, we need a winger. I keep seeing all these trades for OEL, EK, Weber... TOR can not afford that kind of up grade. I had to throw in Fehr to give cap space not because I want him. Barrie is the upgrade without taking a significant dip in scoring. Barrie only has 7 less points than Marner (27pts in 34gms vs. 34pts in 51gms), an affordable contract for 3 yrs and plays 22+ mins a game. Plus a first. Marner is young and has a lot of talent hence the 1st. PIT - Cole is just taking space on their roster/cap and they are still looking for a 3C. Wilson was a great 3C for NSH last year but isn't working out here. Maybe a change of scenery... The 4th is to retain. I dk if the rumors are true that CBJ are taking a look at Soda, but maybe this would work for them. JJ wants out and that can bring down a locker room. But its hard to give up a solid depth D. Cole replaces the D depth and they get a PK specialist in Soda. The Avs give JJ more mins and get a guy that is going to go overboard to impress and then go UFA (thanks and good luck) and future goal depth. The CAR trade I dk Lindholm's value. I just like the way he plays and made an offer. The AZ trade... I figured that was all the future I was willing to bet "A Generational" player not being average, we have a #1 overall in our 4th line. Now please proceed in explaining how wrong I am.

1- Columbus, a team with more Forwards than it can use, would not want Soderberg (especially with no retained salary on that $4.75M/yr contract of his).

2- Why would Carolina, a team with scoring issues, trade a young middle 6 Forward for a 2nd and a Backup they don't need?

1. Sorry, they just claimed Jokinen, I figured they need some forward help. 2. I wasn't trading a backup for CAR I was trading a starter.

The only way Colorado can sniff Marner is if the Ottawa pick is included

i would cry if the avs gave up jost, timmins, and 2 1st rounders for dahlin. thats too many assets to give up - all 4 are top tier prospects (is jost still considered a prospect?)

also too much to give up for marner, especially since hes taken a step back this year. barrie's value is the highest its ever been - he has a higher points per game than marner this year as a defenseman. wouldnt risk giving up a 1st rounder also

If OTT gets the 2018 pick back, then they give up their 2019 first. Which in this scenario, would go to ARI. Two firsts, Jost and Timmins is easily worth 1OA, even with Dahlin sitting there. Might even be more than I would be willing to pay. Plus one of those prospects is currently doing fairly well in the NHL this year. The other was the WJC Gold winning Team Canada's best defenseman, and currently the best D in the OHL.

I still maintain that if a pick is involved in a Marner-Barrie swap, it is head TO Colorado. A 60pt D is worth more than a 55pt F. Then add the cap dump Fehr...COL gets the pick. I like Marner, so I might do 1for1, but I doubt GMSJS.

Not really understanding the lover for Lindholm....but this one is predicated on gettign Korpisalo....no way the Avs run with Hamburgler as long term backup.

So it ends up being [Bernier, Wilson, Soda and a 2nd] for [Korpisalo, Lindholm, and JJ] with $1mil retention taking up space. I think CBus wants 50% retention on Soda to give up Korpisalo, and I dont think you have to retain on Wilson....they want rid of Cole and will pay the 4th gladly.

I get what you are trying to work here, and it is a valiant effort. But the damage to the locker room by giving up 4 guys would be huge. Especially Barrie (MacK's bestie and loved by all the guys). Maybe some of it would be better as draft floor trades (the ARI trade would have to be). Overall values do not seem too far out of whack, aside from the cost for Marner.
