Theres no way you possibly get Gallagher for anything less than a top prospect or a 1st round pick. Even then probably still no.

What do you value a Top 6 center as? Gallagher is probably in the 30-40 range for best wings around the league. Stastny is in that range for centers. MTL has a bunch of good wingers (Patches, Drouin, Galch, even Byron). Centers are more valuable than wingers. MTL can get an unquestionable top 6 C for upcoming years. I forgot to add in that MTL extends him $5.5 x 5.

Just because the value is there doesn't mean its a good trade. We dont want a 2nd/3rd line center on an awful contract whos old and getting worse every year for our best right winger who is also most likely going to be captain when Pacioretty is shipped out.

That depends on whether or not MB gets fired. The fans want a re build but our stubborn GM wants to make the 1st round and lose every year.

If he stays... I’d say stasney is the most realistic centre choice for the habs. He’s a typical kinda player they would get. Think Gomez and gionta.

No way would MTL trade a heart and soul player in his prime for a guy that potentially could be had in free agency. Let's just assume STL will resign him if this deal wouldn't go through. No biggie for MTL. There is potentially Backlund , Tavares, Bozak, etc that we could target and not have to give up a darn thing other than cash for.

Now let's assume MTL is willing to really go for it and make a trade to improve us now. How is this really making us better? Yeah sure we get better at center but weaker at the wing and not to mention much older. Stastny has put up decent numbers in STL but would he be able to do just as good in MTL on a team that weaker than STL? I don't see any logic behind that. Not too mention that his offense will ultimately start to decline on top of that with his age.

Blais is really not going to change much in the grand scheme of thing. Sure MTL would like to have him but not at the cost of Gallagher.

Yeah, agree 100% - No way Stastny has any value when MTL has cap space and the cap rising so much next year.

Why on earth would the Habs trade for Stastny? Ridiculous. They can take him on as a free agent soon enough. This season is a wash for MTL, better to wait, anything else would be lunacy!

More importantly why is STL who are also lacking in Centerman, (STL fans words, not mine), making this trade before the playoffs?

Gallagher requires a top prospect? If Bergevin thinks the way you it's no wonder why Montreal is in the position they're in. Gallagher is worth a medium range prospect and mid round pick at best.
