I'm wondering if there really is a market for guys like Bergeron and Krejci....mid to high salaries with contracts that take them to about age 37. They might be worth more to the Bruins than anyone else.
If you're a contending team with Cup aspirations and Bergeron becomes available I think you'd be nuts not to try to get him. Elite two-way centres (Toews, Kopitar, Bergeron, Datsyuk) are key components for any recent cup winner in recent years. You can stomach the possibility he's not worth his contract in 5-7 years if you win a cup or two in the short term.

You could be right. Trading away your best assets would have to mean a rebuild. Sitting 4th in the Atlantic isn't exactly a call to rebuild. But this is where the I start thinking you need to trade for a young talented player on his ELC (ex: Nathan MacKinnon) to a team looking for a cup run (not Colorado). And then a draft pick (or two maybe)
Just threw out an example off the top of my head...

Oh, I'm not saying it is a reasonable trade and thought. Jarett (who is very reasonable) likes the thought, "going for it" and Bergeron sure could help now and for who know how long in the future. I'm more "afraid" of long term contracts to aging players (though players age at different ages). Being a Leaf fan since 1960, I know what it takes to build a winner
