Why would we trade from 2/3/4th back to likely somewhere around 12th and 24th? Not worth it in the slightest

When teams are interested in a player and want to move up and the Sabres have a chance to get 2 first round pick picks instead of one including one in the top 10 where they get a d man equal to the talent of the ones available at 2-4, a smart gm would like to facilitate that move. You get more assests that way, i honestly didnt think that was a difficult concept to grasp but apparently i need to explain it. Thats amazing…

It is a deep draft, but i agree, those top 5 players are usually your best bet at all star level talent. Unless its 2014. I hate ennis, and judging by wild fans reaction, they do too. I admit i dont know much about lucia, but his scouting report reads like eric cornels- big and fast, plays too much on the perimeter, and doesnt put up big numbers against the big boys, late second rounder. So if you tack on the 2.5 we are retaining on bogo, we are paying ennis 6.5 and getting dumba for the privilege of getting rid of bogosian and squandering our chance to get something nice for pending ufa kane.

This isn't the NFL draft. Value in the top 5 is not worth trading for more picks. If we move that pick we better get a top 2 Defensemen or a top line winger back.

Matt Dumba isnt nice? I think he makes the Sabres D better immediately. It's a deep draft and I feel the defensemen in the top 10 are all interchangeable. They need to go defense not Svechnikov, so they trade down a few spots, get a decent D man, and another later in the round who is committed to college. All hypothetical anyway

D are such a crapshoot. I think most would agree that if we dont get dahlin, whoever we draft on d wont be here for awhile. Botterill is focused on development, so if we were to use those picks to draft two d, with the understanding that it may be years before we see them, and we get immediate help right away with another player, it makes more sense. I think fletchers next buffalo trade gets him fired though, so it might not be dumba coming back. Which is good, because i do hate me some ennis. Wonder what a retained pominville would bring back at the deadline.

It’s not a difficult concept to grasp...
just a horrible one

Trading a top 3 pick in this draft is a really bad idea
Your Philly trade idea is brutal
We need high end talent, not “good” talent

And how many times are u gonna post lineups with the same trades?
Are u really that bored?

The concept of trading down like in the NFL draft rarely works in the NHL, especially if you are looking at trading a top 5 pick...STL is tearing it up and PHI would be a 10-15 pick so IMO, the Sabres wouldn't make this deal just to acquire another 1st....especially if you need impact players....chances are much lower that you find an impact player outside of the top 10....plus the Sabres did a bad job converting their previous bunch of picks (during Murray's run)....I would take the sure thing and stick with a top 5.

Its funny, the first thing i thought was "this isnt the nfl", and two others have said it. Shibbal seems to be a good ship so to play devils advocate- if you are drafting d, and you want to see them some time within 5 years AND you dont have pick one or two, maybe drafting a couple first rounders isnt a bad idea. I would much rather take the top 5 pick regardless of position and get a difference maker than roll the dice on a couple later picks, but i get it. D are awful to project.

Wild trade is odd. Personally I want nothing to do with Bogo, even retained. I like Kane, but he's a pure rental, Wild won't end up resigning him.

I'd trade Ennis for a box of twice licked chocolates, but that's more salary related than his ability. If he was in the ~$2m/yr range he'd be nice to have. Lucia hasn't shown any signs of ever being an NHL player, barely and AHL player at times.

If the Wild trade Dumba it'll likely be for a solid cornerstone piece or high draft pick.

You are such a smart GM. When are you signing a contract in the big leagues??
