??????. Trading McElhinney reduces the shots against? Wow. Maybe just sent Freddie to the Marlies would reduce his shot against.

Ummh, no. Can you read? It'd mean calling Sparks to be his backup. Sparks has been the best goalie in the AHL this year by a long shot, he could play more games to help Freddy rest a bit.

Well being the goalie with the best GAA in the AHL doesn't necessarily mean he is NHL goalie. Just like have the most points in the AHL doesn't make the a forward a top 10 forward in the NHL. Freddie certainly didn't look tired last night though been the Leafs starter in all but four games.
Right or wrong, Leafs management think McElhinney is the best bet for the Leafs this season. McElhinney could be sent waived/sent to the Marlies without hurting the cap at all. I see your point if you think Sparks is a better NHL goalie, which the Leafs will have to decide at some time.

Well he looked good when he was up in NHL, _when healthy_ in the back half of 15-16. People seem to forget the reason his numbers were bad was because he played majority of those games injured.

Funny how goalies are. Like you I do like Sparks. And I thought Bibeau was even better and destined for the NHL. Then Bibeau seemed to faltered last year and was released by the Leafs. Now he's doing quite well again with another AHL team and was actually called up to the NHL this year.
The real reason I think McElhinney is will the Leafs this season over Sparks is because he's low maintenance. He's an veteran NHL back up and can help Anderssen off the ice. Sparks can't really do that just due to his lack of NHL experience. Yea it might be short term thinking, but if the Leafs are going for it this year, Anderssen and the Leafs likely prefer McEl this year.
