Description
1st thing is no matter if its this trade or not Zaitsev and Dermott have proven alot of us correct who thought they will be a solid 2nd pair next season once Gardiner leaves. So they should stay together seeing they truly do complement each other. Gardiner and Hainsey should be a solid pairing with hainsey being asked to keep playing the same way he has with Reilly with more sheltered min. The trade to me is fair Brown could be the winger the oilers have been trying to find for McDavid to finish the line seeing they have a past history and could be what Chris Kuntiz was to Crosby seeing he understands mcdavids thought process. Borgman may not be a houshold name like liljegren but he is a dman almost NHL ready that the oilers need cheap and talanted. Holl is not getting alot of icetime but hasn't looked aweful and could be a solid 3rd pair puck moving dman at worst for the oilers and the 1st this year helps long term. The Leafs get Larsson a solid shutdown big min dman, Chaisson a solid bottom 6 wing with stanley cup experience and the leafs take Spooner on AHL loan saving the oilers paying his remaining salary this year like the leafs did with Sam Gagner.

Haha not a chance from the Oilers. Larsson isn’t going anywhere. Especially if there isn’t on guarantee coming our way. Holl is a bottom pairing dman, Brown is a 3rd line winger. The 1st is likely to be in the 25-30 range. Don’t actually know anything about Borgman.

Also I’m not sure, but what does taking Spooner on a loan do for the Oilers? You take him but but not his contract? What’s the value added? It’s not like the Oilers have log jam in the AHL, that they don’t even have room for Spooner to play.

If Larsson was going to the leafs, Kadri would need to be coming back

Add Sandin into the trade, yes he is the Leafs top Dmen prospect but the Leafs have Rasanen and Liljgren too. Knock the 1st Round pick to a mid range one. Add Johnsson instead of Holl. Remove Spooner's contract.

Not really borgman has the upside of being a 2nd pair dman in a few years, and brown is a very talanted winger he just is behind probably the deepest wing situation the NHL. Worst case the oilers get value for Larsson best case they win the trade if Brown proves me right like Kapanen did this year and Zaitsev is doing paired with Dermott. Best case Brown could be a solid 2way wing that puts up 50-55 pts a season with McDavid which at this point is a huge upgrade for the oilers worst case he us a solid 2way wing that puts up 40-45 pts with the increase in icetime then he can get in Toronto that can play all situations and is on a very solid contract which with the oilers cap mess will be a risk they can make without a huge sacrifice seeing they need more puck movement and could be trying to get Karlsson or even Gardiner to lineup to replace Larsson. So no this is not a bad trade for oilers. Also, look at how Leivo has fourished with the Canucks he looks like a solid 3rd line wing and he is less talanted then Brown so to me it's worth the risk for the oilers.
