Description

Everyone's done Nylander for Pesce, but I'm not sure Carolina would give him up. What about Faulk + top 3 protected 1st rounder?

The contract signed leaves Nylander a RFA at the end of it, keeping Carolina in control of him long term. (The Leafs could also just opt to resign him at that price/term, but they aren't as strong at RHD and they have an extra top 9 forward if they do.)

Carolina has had a real hard time making the playoffs. The last time they made the playoffs the Atlanta Thrashers were a part of the league. I think they miss the playoffs again and finish with a top 10 pick likely 5-10.

I really question if Faulk would be an improvement over any Dman for the Leafs. Who does he replace on the right side? Not Zaitsev, not Hainsey and 25 year old Ozhiganov is looking good. Certainly Faulk is just average on defence and Leafs don't need him for the PP. If Carolina continues their good play, that draft pick is going to be in the high teens at best.

Actually the talk is they are negotiating a deal like this right now. But they also probably just promised him they have no intentions to flip him for a dman. So to flip him for a player that doesn't make sense cause his skill set is not a match makes no sense.
