Description
Winnipeg gives their best prospect to go for what matters the most : winning the cup. Best time to do this kind of deal before cap space is non-existent after Laine and Connor contracts kick in next year.

Montreal get a solid piece for the rebuild. Plus, Vesalainen is Finnish and likely to match with Kotkaniemi.

What do you guys think?

Jets pass, they need to be able to retain their roster forward depth and Vesalainen is key to that on his ELC for next year. They wont move their best prospects for a pair of 30 year old rentals bc they have no way of keeping them with all the contracts they have to sign.

The fit isnt there bw the team

I understand they would rather keep their top prospect but I think it is the price to pay to remain competitive. Next year it's all or nothing for the Jets, Wheeler needs to be re-sign, Laine and Connor contracts kick in. Obviously Patches and Byron would probably not re-sign with the Jets, but these guys could be a difference maker in playoffs.
As of right now, Jets are not as good as last year due to losing Stastny and I feel like a Patches+Byron duo would make the team even better than last year.
As a Jets fan, I think I do this deal and take a real good shot at the cup, without sacrificing too much, as Vesalainen isn't NHL ready anyway. The team will remain very good offensively and they still keep their 2019 1st round pick no matter what to ensure a certain depth.

That makes no sense, so they move the high upside forward making 925k a season for 3 more years bc they cant stay competitive? Thats how you stay competitive, you use your top prospects ELC years to their full potential.
Moving guys like Vesalainen who are cheap and cost controlled for a while is how you fall out of being competitive. Bc you start to slap together your roster with cheap cast offs,

Pacioretty wouldn't crack their top 6, so why would you move Vesalainen for older guys to be 3rd and 4th line players when you can just keep your own guys and probably the same amount of offence from them in those roles?

Why do you keep using the argument of ''old players''. Jesus, these guys are 29 years old and are traded for a playoff run, I aint saying to sign both 8years deal afterwards lol? And If you think it doesn't make sens, well look at last year TDL, Boston and Tampa did similar moves. They don't depend on their prospect pool as much as other teams and use that to increase their playoff odds. You don't have to agree to these to recognize them.

And having Pacioretty on your third line just shows how good the Jets offense would be. Yeah the Jets have a solid top 6, but it's not all about the top 6, 3rd line can have a huge impact in a series.

Finally, you have to analyze the Jets situation and realize they have a big opportunity to go all-in. The year after is too late, as they wont have the cap space.
Anyway, this is a fantasy website and this is just an idea of Jets using that opportunity. smile

Of all the teams that don't need Patches is the Jets...that have Ehlers and Connor at LW. Would the Jets would like to do is trade some cap to Montreal...especially for next year. Take Little or Perrault for free.
