Flyers trade for Karlsson

This would be terrible.

Karlsson is probably the best defenseman in the NHL, but there is no way in hell I'm giving up our ENTIRE future for him. Provorov and Patrick both have very high ceilings and will most likely be legitimate NHL stars (one could argue that Provorov already is). To add two 1st rd picks just makes it even more ridiculous. We don't even need to shed Lehtera's contract since we have enough cap space for the next year and after that he's gone.

Rubtsov is definitely not making the NHL next year, he doesn't even stand out in the QMJHL. Morgan Frost has dominated the OHL, but even he has a small chance of making the NHL next year. If we're calling up a prospect center, it's most likely going to be Vorobyev.

Manning is not a second pairing defenseman and not worthy of resigning. Especially if Sanheim has to sit in the press box. I also hope that Weise doesn't play a single game next year.

Philly needs more stars do they?

Provy, Ghost, Giroux, Voracek, Couturier, Simmonds (when healthy) and soon to be Patrick and Konecny...I think we are just fine!

Also, I don’t think I would trade Provy straight up for Karlsson. He is younger and won’t cost as much as Karlsson’s $10+ per year after next year.

Hextall has already told the UFAs that there is slim chance they are returning. We have plenty of cap space to sign Simmonds when his contract expires.

If you can wait a year and you're willing to throw $12M at him, Karlsson will come as a UFA. You won't need to trade for him.

I mean, as a sens fan I'd do this in a heartbeat. A bit of an overpayment I'd say. Maybe one of Patrick/Provorov would be included but definitely not both.



Erik Karlsson will never reach UFA status. Maybe in 10 years when he's ready to retire.
