This is really just focused on next year .. no future planning here.

I had to put guys on LTIR that I would not resign.
Might look like a little low on the Karlsson trade but adding Ryan diminishes the total value to the leafs, Plus its only 1 year of Karlsson basically for a cup run next year, maybe they don't resign him.

14m left of room to resign Willy, bonues, LTIR cushion etc.

This also makes a sick 1st PP line

I'm not gonna trash it cause it's not THAT bad, but there's not really any piece that makes this worth while for Ottawa. It's just a lot of decent-good pieces. You guys are pretty good these days so those 1sts will probably be pretty late. Plus I think if Toronto were to ever get Karlsson it would be from another team and not Ottawa. Someone out there would probably try to kill melnyk haha

Ryan's dismal play even at 6m isn't worth Coyotes taking his contract. Is the team that much better with Karlsson? You have seen the results for Ottawa over years.

I guess it depends if it was a sign and trade opportunity that the leafs could get Karlsson for 8 years locked up. there could be some more pieces added but my point is basically the bobby ryan add takes away a ton of value from an ottawa perspective and yes there will probably be a 3rd team involved but I had no idea how to make all that work in this tool so I didn't go for it.

On the Bobby ryan trade, derek stephan hasn't been exactly great either so its kind of a swap of bad contracts, maybe its the cold weather that keeps breaking bobbys hand.
