Honestly, with the caps playing how they are now, I wouldnt touch that team. just let the season play out cause i think they have a big chance again at the cup.

I completely agree. But they're not playing Burakovsky. A 22 year old who can play all three forward positions and score up to 17 goals a season needs playing time to keep improving. Stick him with ROR next year and he might push for thirty goals. Trading Burakovsky rom a team where he isn't playing doesn't really mess with the team.

Scandella doesn't have Orpik's toughness (no one does) or experience with winning a Cup or going to the Olympics, but this year he's playing three more minutes a night with a slightly better plus minus and twice as many points. On paper he's another Orlov, and he's signed cheap, long term. I think the Caps part with Burakovsky to upgrade one of their top four defensemen.

I'd hesitate to take on the tail end of Demers' contract, but Trotz has a history of benching young defensemen in the playoffs, so it's a risk worth taking, short term. He hasn't shone, playing 22 minutes a night in Arizona, but he should still be solid playing 20, this year and next. I don't think his contract is big enough to keep them from re-signing Carlson, although once Carlson is signed, they might not have anything left to give Lars Eller a raise. Ideally, if the Caps do well in the playoffs, they'll raise Demers' trade value enough to flip him in the summer for a 3C who's half as good as Eller, and stay competitive.

I agree with you, and honestly these trades make sense, they do, but im hesitant to touch something that isnt broken. I'm sorry but Caps have this year to get the cup, otherwise, Leafs, Oilers, and or lightning will start a dynasty. You dont want to mess with any of the gel that the guys have made. Trade bura in the summer or keep him now for a run. but you do have the right idea mate

Could probably stick Girgensons as your 3 C next year if it came down to it. Clever way to get out of the orpik contract
