While I typically don’t like putting the onus on the receiving teams in these types of deals… the can could use the capital to do exactly what you are saying. At the very least if this was the best pure value deal the canes received in exchange for Necas I would hope they strongly consider it.

The best value they'll get for Necas is using him to get something bigger. Something like (and I'm not suggesting this, but more an idea) Necas and a 1st for Eichel. Something like that, not that exactly.

I agree that a hypothetical like that is ideal for the canes, but I am more so suggesting that if the offer presented in the post is the best they get around draft time, they should consider it.

Maybe if the 1st was this year, but a day two pick isn't a matter urgent enough to make that decision by the draft with SO much work needing to be done with the pending free agents, Nikishin, the draft itself, figuring out if they're going to extend the draft by another 6 hours by themselves again like they did in 2020... a lot to think about.
