Description

I have a feeling that not only is 40 lacking in his game but is no longer a fit in the locker room. He needs a fresh start in a place without such high expectations. Avs are going with tandem of Blackwood & Annunen. Have Matt Davis in back pocket; he starts in AHL, but is definitely in consideration for a starting role based on performance.

Rather just keep Blackwood. sharks have struggled to find decent goaltending don’t know why they move on from it once they get it

That's exactly right. He has the physical skills to be a #1, but his overall game isn't where it needs to be, plus I think he's blamed his teammates too much for his struggles. I played goal & see he's struggling in two specific areas. 1) 1v1 he doesn't challenge the shooter, but instead freezes & gets picked apart rather easily. 2) weak mindset. Needs a coach to teach him simple, centric techniques to remain calm & focused. He can't make the Big Save & when things start going bad, he can't stop the bleeding. He's gotten too emotional & just needs a fresh start.

Thinking Georgiev might benefit from less games played , instead of shipping him maybe give Annuen more starts ? Blackwood has never start more than 47 games , expecting him to carry the load for 60+ may be a stretch.
