Description
We're just going to assume CBJ get passed in the lottery and fall to 6th OA, then draft Berkly Catton.

Columbus re-signs Zboril to play the 3rd-pair LD role until a long-term option presents itself. Boqvist plays the 7th-D role in hopes of staying healthy all year. If he excels wherever and whenever he plays, he's extended for cheap as the long-term 7th-D.

Mateychuk starts the year in Cleveland, and gets called up around TDL once Provorov is moved.

KJ starts the year in Cleveland to rehab, and likely gets called up as soon as there's an injury. Brindley and Dumais spend the year in Cleveland.

Danforth and Kuraly are the TDL moves as Columbus looks to miss yet again. They make some strides though and look to push for a wildcard/3rd in the Metro in 2025/26.

Barring major injuries, this is what the team looks like post-deadline 2025.

CBJ
  1. Kuemper, Darcy
Détails additionnels:
Happens after July 1st when Kuemper's $2M signing bonus is paid. Columbus adds a veteran goaltender as a Tarasov backup, keeps Greaves in the AHL another year, and saves some money. All while avoiding buying out Elvis if they're headed for a divorce.
WSH
  1. Merzlikins, Elvis
Détails additionnels:
Purely a change-of-scenery trade for two bad goalie contracts. Washington gets the younger, slightly better goaltender.

Détails additionnels:
Both teams look to shake up the forward core after a disappointing season. Buffalo gets the younger player with higher upside, but with injury risk.

Détails additionnels:
Tampa adds a gritty utility 4th-line center for cheap for another playoff run.

  2. Choix de 4e ronde en 2026 (NYR)
Détails additionnels:
Arizona surprises people next year, and with big strides taken by Cooley and Guenther push for the playoffs. They add a utility player to fill out the lineup and get some depth, at the cost of just downgrading one of four 2025 2nds to a 4th a year later.

Détails additionnels:
Edmonton gets a young, cheap depth NHL D-man who can move the puck, has a lot of experience, and likely signs for league minimum.

The Buffalo one is unlikely. Skinner has a full NMC and no interest in going anywhere.

I like the Kuemper for Elvis idea. Curious where that came from.

The Edmonton trade depends on if Ceci is gone and Broberg is still in AHL. But IDK if bean will be a bottom pair defenseman. Bean has potential but I don't think that Edmonton is the place.

Laine to Buffalo is interesting but you're not getting Skinner as he has NMC.

Everything else is pretty good.

Also idea for trading Provorov. Maybe Calgary.

Laine has a partial NTC, too. That's the most unlikely trade here IMO, I should have qualified it with all NMC's are waived. Everyone on here seems to have Laine as trade bait so I figured I'd play along for this exercise. FWIW, I'm 100% on the keep Laine train; if he bounces back, he's exactly what we need. If he doesn't, his trade value isn't going to get much lower anyway. It would be dirty to trade him while he's either in or fresh out of the PAP anyway.

Kuemper came from the comments ofthis ACGM. Of A) buyout, B) Campbell, or C) Kuemper, that's definitely my favorite option.

The nice part about Bean is he still has enough potential that he might be able to reach 2nd-pair potential with the right coach/system. EDM definitely depends on how the rest of their D-men shake out, but I figured it would be an interesting target that's a little different from everything else I've seen.

Laine/Skinner is really unrealistic due to NMCs, I agree. I think Columbus should keep Laine anyway, just included him as part of the exercise here.

Calgary could also work, I've seen that elsewhere here, though, and Calgary fans seemed to think it would turn into another Hanifin situation at TDL. That would more likely be an offseason move, too. I'm not opposed to that at all, I just think Columbus is more likely to hang onto him until TDL to both minimize the total salary they'd have to retain, and also let Mateychuk grow in the AHL a little before eventually filling Provorov's role.
