Hanifin sign and trade possible

Darren Dreger earlier on Leafs-Kraken pregame; Islanders are interested in Flames Noah Hanifin. Says that’s a way for Hanifin to get the extension that he wants.

(Hanifin extends $7.5x8 as part of the trade here)

Give CGY the rumored “DeBrincat” package. NYI would need Pageau’s cap off the books to make the extended Hanifin work next year and beyond. In this deal structure, the Isles would NOT need CGY to retain any salary. However, if we were going to make another move to replace JGP the retention would come in handy.

The Flames may end up needing C depth if Lindholm is also traded. CGY is having a problem getting guys to commit there so they may have to go to the trade route for guys already signed to term.
