I could see Dubas trading a late pick (call it a 5th) to Ottawa for JBD before they put him on waivers in the morning.

To be honest, I think we all value JBD more than Thomson. The defensive dman has more value than the offensive one (in most circumstances).

But yes I think this is terrible asset management by Ottawa. I believe they didn't want to add Thomson or JBD for Chychrun because they wanted to keep them. Just to lose them both a few months later.

More value to a team like Ottawa who already has 4 D-men who push the offense and that has bled a lot of goals against during the rebuild. Some team is going to develop JBD properly into a valuable defensive D-man who keep the puck out of his net.

This is just one small instance of what has been going on under Pierre Dorion. It's not terrible asset management, it's simply been inexistant.
