Oh man the optics of this would be terrible for Vancouver.

Oh sure it would...for a few days. But if you think about it, does the Carolina version of Chatfield make the Canucks a better team? Heck yes he would. I genuinely think that a trade like this would be a win-win for both teams. Canes get an interesting young forward while the Canucks improve at a crucial position.

Chatfield has played well in Carolina but it's not a win for Van. They need a top pair D to partner with Hughes and this isn't it. They don't need to trade anyone to dump any cap (Myers) so Chatfield has no place on the roster in Van. Hoglander has top 6 skill and minimum middle 6 potential. If they wanted another depth RHD, they could have signed one.

Not a player we would want to revisit. Carolina made him good. He doesn't fit here.

copied from other post: Chatfield was awful in vancouver, and I have no doubt that he would be just as awful if he came back here. Canes system makes him good. I wouldn't even trade a 7th for him because he was that bad here.
