Soooo. I've been looking at Nick Bobrov's scouting history with the Bruins and Rangers. The only great pick he has had is Krejci. This, over a 10+ yr span. Below are players he has really miffed on.
And some still to be determined, to be fair.
2001-2006 Boston Bruins Director *European* scouting
2002:
Hannu Toivonen, 29th overall, 61GP (goalie)
Vladislav Yevseyev, 56th overall, 0GP
2003:
Masi Marjamäki, 66th overall, 1GP
2004:
*David Krecji*, 63rd overall, amazing 2d line center
Martins Karsums, 64th overall, 24GP
2005:
Petr Kalus, 39th overall, 11 GP
Mikko Lehtonen, 83rd overall, 2 GP
2006:
Yuri Alexandrov, 37 overall, 0GP
2015-2021 NYR Director *European* scouting
2016:
no picks
2017:
Lias Andersson, 7th overall, 110 GP, 17 pts (and guess what, now he's a hab ...)
Filip Chytil, 21st overall, 327 GP, 138 pts (finally had a decent year last year)
2018:
Vitali Kravstov, 9th overall, 64 GP, 12 pts (now in the KHL)
Nils Lundkvist 28th overall, 85 GP, 20 pts
Olaf Lindbom, 39th overall, 0 GP (goalie, now struggling to stay in the ECHL)
Jakob Ragnarsson, 70th overall, 0 GP
2019:
Kaapo Kakko, 2nd overall, 239 GP, 98 pts (not ready to give up on him yet, however, this one still scares me)
Karl Hendriksson, 58th overall, 0 GP
2020:
no picks to note
2021:
no picks to note. but NYR tellingly drafted NA players until 4th round.
*Last thing I have to say*, is the Habs didn't 'scout Mitchkov live'. Now, I'm not at all upset we didn't draft him. I think Reinbacher can be great, but...the fact that your 'director of scouting' who is russian, cannot travel to russia to scout a potential elite talent, is 100% mind-boggling.
