They still need to spend a bit more, and they still have two retention slots to play with at the coming TDL. Why not take a flyer on some guys. Domi turned into a 2nd.

Hawks don't actually need to spend another dime to reach the cap floor. The Bailey buyout will put them about $2m above the cap floor once they resign Kurashev and add the rookies from Rockford. As for those retention slots - Tyler Johnson, Dickinson, Foligno and Tinordi are all candidates. Plus Perry if he signs. Can't see the Hawks targeting any UFA other than one of Domi or Compher as a top 6 C.

I don't see there being much of a market for any of them, at least not one worth carrying their contract all year. I'd rather have a spot open to give some prospects a few games to get a feel for the NHL.

I would rather do nothing than overpay Domi or Compher on a multiyear deal. Before long some of the young guys will be ready for those roles and those contracts will end up being burdens.
