**Before I start, those trades happens (in my situation) if the players with one year left re-sign**
It's not a rebuild, it's a retool.
The big question right now is if their big names are all staying. What's going to happen with Hellebuyck, who already mentioned that he is not interested to re-sign an extension. Is Scheifele staying? What's going on with Wheeler?
First off, I looked who would need a goaltender, an elite one at best. I stopped my choice with Carolina. They have a young, exciting team and all they need is a reliable goalie (if they decide not to sign Andersen). Word around the league is Brett Pesce is on the trade block, and I think it would be a perfect trade for the Jets, as it helps out there D core and he could be interested for an extension. And to replace Hellebuyck, I got the Jets picking up Logan Thompson. As per Kevin Weekes, Vegas could be open to trade Thompson, with how solid Brossoit and Hill were when Thompson was injured. Winnipeg get younger between the posts and Vegas are getting draft capita.
The next one is Scheifele. His future is up in the air and the Jets would be tempted to trade him away. In this situation, I traded him to Seattle. The Kraken surprised everyone this year with how solid they played and adding a solid centre along with their young core, Seattle could become dangerous. The price to pay would be a a first round pick this year, Jagger Firkus, who had a good season in the WHL, and Eeli Tolvanen. Tolvanen is a speedy winger and would bring depth on the wings.
It is looking more and more likely that the Jets are going to buyout Blake Wheeler. Personally, I wouldn't do it but it would be better for the future of the team. Biting the bullet for the next two years of next to no impact on the salary cap, it is a good business decision for Winnipeg
One that is far fetch and least likely to happen, is to acquire Elias Lindholm from the Flames, another one that his future is up in the air in Calgary. If he would be willing to sign him to an extension, I would pick him up and he would be a "replacement" for Scheifele. You would have to trade a roster player, in this case Neal Pionk, a prospect, and maybe even more. But this one is the least likely to happen.
For the UFA's, James Reimer at the right price would be the perfect backup to Thompson and Matt Dumba would be a more defensive defensemen to replace Pionk, and would slide in the 2nd pair easily. Also, both guys are from western Canada, and close to home.
Canes would love to have Helly, but his price of acquisition and the cap hit he wants make no sense for the Canes. Not to mention, he would be a rental, and the Canes don’t move massive packages for rentals.
