Description
It seems to me that Montreal's future lineup could have 3 holes to fill if some of their prospects work out.
1. Second Line winger (preferably one with more size than Mesar, even though he is friends with Juraj and was a recent pick)
2. Top RHD (preferable more reliable than Mailloux at the moment, as he apparently needs a lot of work on his defensive play/decision making)
3. Goaltending (which may be fixed in the 2nd round...hopefully...see below)

Getting additional picks in this year's draft could fill the holes down the road.

Caufield Suzuki Slafkovsky
Michkov/RL Dach XXXXX
RHP Beck Roy/Kidney
Heineman Evans Gallagher
Kapanen Tuch

Guhle Barron
Hutson XXXXX
Xhekaj Harris
Kovacevic Engstrom

Allen
Primeau
Hrabal/Bjarnason/Augustine/Fowler (pick 37)

With that POSSIBLE lineup set as it is above, the expendable players who could bring value in trades seem to be (although I do not know what Hughes' and Gorton's plans are more than anyone else does):
Tier 1 (prospects):
Mesar
Farrell
Davidson
Mailloux

Tier 2 (established players):
Anderson
Dvorak
Edmundson
Savard
Montembeault

Upcoming draft picks in 2024 and beyond

Détails additionnels:
A goalie for $1M who just had a decent season, considering he was playing on a bad team and a good showing at the World Hockey Championships on a Team Canada that was not stacked.
I still do not think he is Montreal's goalie of the future, but he could be a good tandem goalie for a team like Pittsburgh.

Détails additionnels:
Mailloux has baggage, I know, but he also has a good shot and could be a power play quarterback for a team.
Anderson at half price is still quite a good deal, despite what many people tend to say.
Not sure about this trade to be honest.

Pens accept! muahahaha
Computer boys Part Deux to the rescue!

Not sure how Montreal retains that much on Anderson for that long, either.

These deals are bad for the Habs.

Mesar did not have a good D+1 seasons, I'll grant you, but players coming over from Europe typically take a year to adjust to NA ice. Give him another year before you judge him, he did show flashes of the player he could be.

If you would agree that Monty is worth a 2nd, this Pittsburgh deal is essentially 2 x late 1sts and 2 x 2nds for a cap dump and pick 14.

The Vancouver deal is insane. Basically Garland and Anderson are both overpaid but useful wingers. Even though most would disagree, I would say they cancel each other out with No Retention.

So then the Vancouver deal is Farrell, Mailloux, Struble, a 1st, a 2nd, and a 3rd, plus 11M in retained salary over 4 years for pick 11.

No offense, but I hate these deals.

I thought the OP was trolling Habs fans. That Canucks package is something else when the Canucks scribes are talking at theathletic about buying out Garland. The Calgary 1st may be a better pick than the Vancouver pick at 11th this year

OP is a regular contributor to Habs threads and is always respectful. Def not a Troll.

I can understand your perspective though. Man these are the worst.

I see your point about Mesar, but if he has another bad year, his value dips further.

The Pittsburgh and Vancouver trades are for (approximately) top 10 picks in a normal year (since Bedard (obviously), Fantilli, Michkov and possible Carlsson are possible 1OA in most years), so getting into the top 10 is tough. You have to give up a bit to get there.

I have no problem with not making these trades, so your comments do not bother me at all really, but it is just an exercise to see if the Habs can really round out the future roster with high end talent that probably will play a long time in the NHL, rather than keeping mid level talent that could be hit or miss. At some point it does not hurt to swing for the fences.
