1. Overpayment from Carolina for Nylander
2. Not enough for Matthews. Matthews has more goals than anyone in the league since entering. He averages over 50 goals per 82 games.
3. Not nearly enough for Marner. Lindholm has averaged 56 point during his career. Marner is a 99 point Selke finalist.
4. Why would Toronto retain that much and give up a pick when a buyout is cheaper? Math.
5. Goalies are voodoo. Saros had the same save % as Samsonov and couldn’t even lead his team to the playoffs. It’s a huge risk investing in any goalie nowadays.
