Not that I think the Hawks should/will be competitive into next year, but I truly think they should take the time this offseason to build a team around Bedard and take advantage of cap-strapped teams. It will be very beneficial to his development to have competent NHL wingers.
First trade we head off to Boston where they offload over 9 million in cap to us. We get a former hart trophy winner in Hall and defencemen Matt Grzelyck. All we give up is a 4th round pick and defencemen Nolan Allan. Allan, former first-rounder under the Stan Bowman regime (and weak draft) is a prospect in a very strong position for the Hawks, being left defencemen. The bruins get some sort of value back to tip their caps to. Hall fits in the top 6 for the next year or two, complimenting Connor Bedard. Grzelyck, for 1 year is a stop-gap filler in the Top 4 of the Hawks, could very well be a resign candidate.
Next up we send Ian Mitchell to the Flyers for a 3rd, what would be a late third as the lowest FLA could get is 28th OVR at this point. Flyers doesn't have to be the team, first team that came to mind considering they lost Braun to retirement.
Lastly, the Hawks pick up Cal Petersen in a situation I strongly believe is the best for him. With Mrazek and Soderblom as the current tandem, he has all the chance in the world to win back a full-time starter role. For incentive to drop his cap hit, the Hawks send over prospect Tyler Madden and move down from the 3rd to the 5th round. Wouldn't call this an outrageous incentive asking price, and if they had their first I would propose a similar deal to what they did with Mrazek with Toronto.
I may lose Hawks fans hear with my Caleb Jones contract. Long term, relatively low AAV and essentially locked up same term as his brother Seth to keep the two together. As an Oilers fan I saw upside, idk if the past 2 years have been kind to him however. Kurashev gets a 1 year bridge deal, again taking inspiration for similar deals given out to Yamamoto and Puljujarvi a few years back. Joey Anderson gets an identical deal to Arvid Soderblom. Whereas the final 2 RFAs that sign up are Regula and Madden to low AAV 1 year deals.
In free agency, this is where the Hawks truly start to fill out their roster. 2 big time roster players come in in Domi & Hathaway. Both I would consider over payments. Domi comes back to the Hawks and essentially gets his first long term pay day of his entire career. He had a good run up until the deadline, now he'll be apart of the leadership group as Bedard grows into an elite player. Hathaway comes in as a grinder with a nice scoring touch. As old school of a mindset that this is, if you have a star player, you need a mean player or two on the ice that will ensure he doesn't get messed with, Hathaway is that guy. With the current state of this team, I don't think 2.75 for a bottom 6 player is crippling. Kyle Burroughs also signs up at the exact same AAV as Jarred Tinordi, as the two battle for 6th/7th minutes (one being LD, one being RD). Some depth options come in as well, Jesper Froden a 2 way forward with playoff GPs with Seattle, big tall bottom 6 player in Zohorna (reference: Hathaway) and Connor Carrick (RD being a position of weakness).
As for lineups, just a few explanations here. I would staple Hall / Bedard together till the wheels fall off. Raddysh has got a big season ahead of him and if he can keep up on line 1, a big pay day. (could always slot in Johnson or move Domi to RW if not). Korchinski starts at 3LD, at least 9 games. Much like Guenther with the Yotes/Oil Kings, he can start in the NHL, get his feet wet then when Seattle commits to their rebuild, they trade the WHL rights of Korchinski to a good situation and the Hawks loan him back. Zaitsev is encouraged to pull a Datsyuk and ditch his contract to return to Russia (no real money owed, only cap hit). I have Petersen starting in the AHL, but that can certainly change
You seem to be a little confused about your own trade here. First of all, LA is the team sending Tyler Madden somewhere, not the Hawks; he alone is worth a fourth-round pick at least. More to the point, LA is moving from the second round to the fifth, not the third to the fifth. Specifically, the Kings would be moving from #53 or #54 (depending upon whether Seattle wins or loses tonight) to #130 -- a drop of 76 spots plus the value of Madden to move a contract you yourself deem comparable to Petr Mrazek's -- which cost Toronto exactly 13 places in the draft. As a result, this is EXACTLY what I would call "an outrageous incentive asking price." So by your own description, a fair offer would be to take out the second, or take out Madden and make the draft pick on your side your own 2023 third.
The only good moves here for the Hawks are trading Mitchell for a third and resigning Domi. Everything else is just wasting cap space and playing time on players that do nothing to help build for the future. I could see possibly giving up a second for Hall, but he would have to waive to come here.
