Massive Mega Trade - Kings version

That’s way too much for one year of Matthews, the Kings issues are reupping another left shot defenseman and another goalie, this just sells the farm for one strong year offensively and being weak defensively.

Technically it's 9 years of Matthews given he's getting extended immediately. Also, the trade doesn't include a single farm player so to speak, and Kings haven't kept their first rounders in two years now anyway, so they're not building via futures anymore.

They are, similar to Leafs, kinda stuck in the early rounds of playoffs, and imo they should strike while the iron is hot. Imo they are a franchise forward short of greatness, and they are in a very special place in terms of being able to add one with the assets they got right now.

I think it's a big overpay by the Kings.....even for next season. I'm a big Leaf fan, but no way do I think Matthews deserves to highest paid player in the league.

Probably not, but that's probably what is expected - especially if the cap is set to increase big time for 2024-25.

Getting one million more would already make him the top paid NHLer in the league, so we know that he and his agent do like big stacks.

Well if strictly $$$$$, Matthews will sign with Arizona. But if a team wants to truly competitive, they won't sign him to the biggest $$$$. I really don't by the argument that much, that the cap will be rising. 21 other players also expect pay increases with a rising cap.
