Description
What would it take to acquire the 14th overall pick?

My thought process is that STL would package the presumable 25th overall pick (if COL wins tonight + DAL/NYR don’t make their respective CF) along with someone like Perunovich to move up in the draft.

For Pittsburgh sake, I think they are considered in a win now mode maybe with the main 3 having probably 2-3 more solid seasons left in the tank. What needs to be added to the deal in order to get this accomplished?

I assume PIT defense barring any other moves to be:
Perunovich - Letang
Pettersson - Petry
Joseph - Rutta

Seems like a surefire way to get into that conversation is finding room for Granlund or Carter on the Blues' roster (and not saying I want that but taking real money out of it you look at our bottom six and...idk, if we're not planning on competing there are worse ways to use a roster spot and we DO need a center if we strike out on a free agent).

Although, the difference between the top 14 pick and the top 25 pick doesn't seem to be particularly big this year. Most prospect-y people think it kind blurs together for the rest of the first round after a strong top 10.

That’s 100% fair. I figured PIT is in need of a defenseman on the left side and I think Perunovich would be a really good fit with Letang and can be a Top 4 D for PIT for a while.

This doesn't really make sense for the Pens.

If they do end up trading the pick, it'll be for someone way more impactful than Perunovich.

Speaking of him, he doesn't make this trade fair at all. Moving down 11 spots for him is not a good trade for the Pens.

From my view the 1st round tiers this summer go like this...

1
2
3 4
5 thru 10 or 11
12 thru about 18
the rest of the round is pretty even

So moving from 25 to 14 is the basically the difference between grabbing Danielson (or perhaps Ritchie) and grabbing, say, Stramel. For that position, it's a considerable bump up in quality. For me, this move up only really makes sense if that is the exchange we're trying to make on a C pick. Otherwise, we could trade up fewer spots or not at all and be fine with what D-men are on the board.
