Description
Islanders are obviously in "go for it" mode but it's tough to be too confident in a team that's currently 10th in the conference and needs to leapfrog a couple teams that have games in hand on them. So let's hedge our bets baby!

Scott Mayfield is a luxury at RD3. While it's nice to be able to roll 3 D pairs equally, there's nothing wrong with taking a few minutes away from the 3rd pair and giving it to the top 4. Cash in Mayfield for picks/prospects, and use a lesser prospect to get a lesser rental to fill his minutes.

Kubalik is a guy I've loved since this summer and thought the Isles should've taken a flyer on. I'm sure Detroit would be open to offers; I'm just not sure what the value is. Red Wings fans, jump in and tell me how terrible this is and let me know what you think Steve Yzerman would be looking for out of the Isles' org.

Lines are how I'd run them the rest of the way; if Clutterbuck is back he cycles in and out of RW4 with Fasching, and if Wahlstrom plays again I slot him at RW2 and put Palmieri in Holmstrom's RW3 slot.
Transactions
1.
NYI
  1. Beckman, Adam
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2023 (MIN)
Détails additionnels:
VALUE: Mayfield's profile is extremely similar to Josh Manson's (big, physical RHD good for 20ish points/82 GP). Manson got a 2nd & a prospect when he was retained down to $2.05M last year; Mayfield gets the same. Beckman is a winger with middle-6 upside and decent finishing - something the Isles need in their system.
MIN
  1. Mayfield, Scott
Détails additionnels:
NEED: Minnesota is only 1 point clear of the last playoff spot in the West and has cap space for reinforcements. Getting Mayfield still leaves them $8M+ in space for forward upgrades while allowing them a better RD3 option than a heavily-sheltered Calen Addison for their stretch run.
2.
NYI
  1. Braun, Justin
Détails additionnels:
NEED: Trading Mayfield opens a hole at RD3; Braun is a solid hand who can give you 16-18 solid minutes and has a ton of playoff experience. Means that you rely on your top 4 a little more than currently, but that's fine.
PHI
  1. Wilde, Bode
  2. Choix de 4e ronde en 2023 (NYI)
Détails additionnels:
Braun got a 3rd rounder at last year's TDL with a $1.8M hit; he has a lower hit this year, sure, but his defensive metrics are trending a little worse and his offense is non existent (0 pts in 34 GP). Wilde has no home in New York and gives Philly a young depth player who might have some upside to unlock in a new org.
3.
NYI
  1. Kubalik, Dominik
Détails additionnels:
NEED: Isles need more finishers. Kubalik is a former 30-goal scorer, signed to a very reasonable deal, and has good numbers so far this year (14-20-34 in 48 GP.) He's a black hole on defense but pair him with some responsible players and he could flourish.
DET
  1. Salo, Robin
  2. Choix de 3e ronde en 2024 (NYI)
Détails additionnels:
So tough to find a fit here. Salo is probably one of the better remaining NHL-caliber players in the Islanders' system, but I know he faces a logjam at LD in the Red Wings' system. Open to Detroit fans counter-proposals on this one.

I agree about salo but it's a fair offer. Id like a 2nd for him but it seems too much he really isn't that good a hockey player.

I don't know about this one. He 24 and still spending a lot more time in the AHL than the NHL. Is the left side of the Islanders defense that good that it would keep a NHL caliber player in the AHL?

My own view on it is that Salo would more or less be doing what Sebastian Aho has been doing as a serviceable LD3 getting 17ish minutes per night, but Salo is waivers-exempt and easier to stash in the AHL. The reason Sam Bolduc got the call up over Salo was most likely a combo of wanting to showcase Bolduc as a potential trade asset and that Salo's had a minor injury in the last couple weeks - this is all my own speculation, for what it's worth, but when dealing with a Lou Lamoriello team that's all you really have.

The tough part in lining up this trade is that one of Bolduc or Salo is probably the Isles' current best trade chip, and as you know, the Red Wings don't have a huge need for lefty Dmen. I think William Dufour and Ruslan Iskhakov make sense as potential trade chips, too, but after moving Raty I would prefer the Isles hang on to what little offensive potential they have in the system.

Pass Kubs is on pace for 58 points this year, he's worth more than Salo and a 3rd round pick still 2 drafts away.

Rather keep Kuby... value isn't bad, just don't see a lot of incentive for the Wings to make this move
