Description
If anything, I think Seattle should try to avoid making any notable moves at the deadline. The team is performing better than I think anyone would've thought possible, with guys like Burakovsky, Bjorkstrand, and Schultz all bringing A grade quality on arrival and Geekie, Beniers, and Schwartz among others having all great seasons. The purpose of this is to at least try and address the two problems I think Seattle has.

Problem 1: Goaltending. I don't know how Seattle is doing as well as they are with their subpar goaltending, finding a suitable goalie for both this and the next few seasons could make or break this Seattle roster's shot at winning anything meaningful.

Problem 2: Eberle replacement. As of right now I don't think its really an issue, but it won't be too long before that second line right wing is open and in need of filling. This isn't a problem, just planning ahead.

  1. Gibson, John
  2. Choix de 4e ronde en 2023 (ANA)
Détails additionnels:
Unless you've somehow forgotten to check the standings, it's safe to say we all know the quality of play that Anaheim has brought to the table, and safe to say it's probably not worth keeping a goalie who's in the middle of his prime around for it, and a good one at that. Gibson's value is about as high as it can be for the rest of his career and the ducks should look to capitalize on that. They realistically can't be much worse than they are even if they got rid of their starter, and the picks and prospects you can get from him are well worth the trade.
ANA
  1. Donskoi, Joonas
  2. Evans, Ryker
  3. Choix de 1e ronde en 2023 (SEA)
Détails additionnels:
Gibson is not a nobody, and having near .900 behind a team that is worse than Arizona is honestly really impressive, but that just means you're going to have to pay the big bucks to bring him in. Though Seattle's 1st probably won't be a lotto pick, it's easy to think it won't be considered as valuable, but the market for 1sts right now is crazy and the 2024 draft sounds looks like it deserves the hype, so landing any 1st in a trade is basically like striking gold. Though Anaheim does have some really good blue line prospects, what they have in quality is not in quantity, and the Ducks could find a lot of value in adding another quality prospect at this point. Donskoi is out of place in Seattle, he's not cracking into the roster and his cap hit is... something, he's here mostly to fit Gibson in under the cap.
2.
SEA
  1. Boeser, Brock (2 000 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
This trade is less something that I think will actually happen and more of a thought experiment. I mentioned in the description that in the future, Eberle might need to be replaced, and with the Boeser trade rumors going around that he might be going for less than he should be worth, I thought it'd be interesting if Seattle picked him up. Best case, Boeser thrives under the new team and becomes a brand new star player on the team for years to come, worst case, he's a depth scorer on a contract that is pretty brutal
VAN
  1. Robertson, Tucker [Liste de réserve]
  2. Sprong, Daniel
  3. Choix de 2e ronde en 2023 (TOR)
  4. Choix de 3e ronde en 2024 (TOR)
Détails additionnels:
If the rumor that Vancouver is selling low on Boeser is true, that doesn't mean other teams aren't throwing low prices for the guy too. Sprong replaces the depth role that Boeser currently fills, Robertson is a decent prospect, and the two picks are pretty high, all for a guy who might only be a depth player... yikes

SEA
  1. Choix de 7e ronde en 2023 (STL)
Détails additionnels:
Not an actual trade, just a reminder that I'm not really sure if these trades are balanced and would like constructive feedback to try and make better moves.

Canucks pass. Its unlikely that they retain, and if they do it’ll be for a better return than that

Canucks selling low on Boeser would be so they could shed cap. If they are retaining, it kinda ruins that so they would be looking for a bigger return

The deal makes more sense if you send Grubauer back the other way instead of Donskoi. Not sure you want to be spending 12+ mil on goaltending, and on our side, we don't have a starting goalie ready to go if Gibson goes. Gibson has shown he plays exceptionally well in a trap style system (his amazing years on the Ducks) and I think would be fantastic on the Kraken. The reason we could be interested in Grubauer is that he works best as a tandem goalie while Gibson is a workhorse starter, if we feel that Dostal needs to get a good amount of games to maintain his development, Grubauer would be a better partner.

If you didn't send Grubauer back, we would need to go find a starting capable goalie, and the guys who are potentially available include Bobrovski, who doesn't likely wave from FLA to go to Anaheim (not to mention that god-awful contract and Florida not having the pieces we would want to take that deal) , and Campbell, who's looking rough on a team that is supposed to be good, even if they have a porous defense, they at least have goal support.

Maybe Carolina is willing to dump Andersen back to us to clear cap space since their young goalie emerged, maybe we can get Vegas to pay us to take Lehner, he only has a couple years left on his deal when he comes back, maybe we can go sign one of the pensioners that will be available in FA for a couple seasons.
