Description
Based on the first quarter of the year, in my opinion Dallas is one RHD that's capable playing first pair minutes away from cup contender status. The coaching changes, alongside the additions such as Marchment, and the emerging young guys in Johnston, Dellandrea and Lundkvist, have helped our secondary scoring issues very much, but now a new issue is biting Dallas - we're simply allowing too many goals on a nightly basis.

I like Lindell-Lundkvist as the second pair, but out of our 4 options to pair Heiskanen, all of Suter, Miller, Hakanpää and Harley are simply not good enough. These D-men are capable enough for a bottom-4/bottom-pair role, but they imo come up short when put in the first pair role. I think DAL needs to add some defensively responsible RHD to take the role. Sadly though, there aren't many options in the market to explore, but coincidentally both of my favorite potential additions play for the same team.
Transactions
1.
DAL
  1. Jensen, Nick
  2. Choix de 5e ronde en 2024 (WSH)
  3. Choix de 5e ronde en 2025 (WSH)
Détails additionnels:
Or Dmitry Orlov, I think both would fit well to play with Heiskanen, but I'd slightly favor Jensen over Orlov here because of Jensen being right handed, allowing Miro to play on his stronger side, and he's cheaper cap wise. If Capitals is out of the playoff race by the deadline, I'd surely explore to option to buy one of these D-men from WSH.
WSH
  1. Khudobin, Anton
  2. Peterson, Jacob
  3. Choix de 1e ronde en 2024 (DAL)
2.
DAL
  1. Puljujärvi, Jesse
Détails additionnels:
@Db1899's idea. I like the idea of swapping the two struggling wingers. Move to a new environment could do wonders for both of them.

At the deadline, if you're out of playoff race, taking the remaining 4 months Dobby has left on his contract is tantamount to nothing, only dead cap of no effect. Also, Peterson was pretty much a full time NHLer last year, but hasn't found a fit in Dallas system this year after coaching change and Marchment addition, so I wouldn't call him valueless. I wouldn't call it too long of a shot to say Peterson would make it into Caps lineup, especially wlth their injuries and severe lack of younger talent.

We have young guys who can and will slot into the lineup once the vets are traded out. Regardless, the caps have no incentive to help the stars out and take on a contract like that for no reason. Jensen alone is worth a first.

It's essentially the same concept as retaining on a player at the deadline. Teams retain salary at the deadline at no added cost as they have no need for the cap space for the remaining part of the year.
