claiming Reilly isn't realistic as I think SJ has to make a move to have enough space but I think he would be a great add

Provides good offense and might honestly become our 2nd best defenseman immediately
Takes a lot of pressure off Karlsson and would play on our 2nd pp which hasn't been good. Don't have any exact stats for that but I don't remember them scoring yet.
We'd have him next year too which is good because I don't expect any LD prospects to make an impact next year

edit - is Nutivaara eligible for LTIR? don't really know how that works but I'd think we'd have enough space then w/out trading Simek. I've read that surgery might be needed for him which I'd assume would put him out for a long time making him eligible for LTIR.
feel bad for him, he just can't play at all.

Caps don't need Simek with Alexeyev returning, and the extra salary is not worth the 5th rounder on a guy who wouldn't make the starting lineup in DC, so Washington declines this. The premise of a Simek trade is fine, but I have a feeling San Jose would have to cough up a bit more.
