The trade for Toews isn't necessarily needed if we sign Rodrigues because of the development of Newhook and Meyers but he would be a great fit on the second or third line here. The trade would only happen is Compher agrees to an extension, which he'd be guaranteed to get more ice than he gets in Colorado. Still depends on if Toews wants to force himself out of Chicago and will only accept a trade to a contender. Avs would be hesitant to include this years first, may have to add a prospect or next years first instead of the 2nd

MacDermid starts on the taxi squad because I assume Avs will have an injury at some point so his cap would work pretty quickly. If not Meyers or Newhook can get some top-line minutes for the Eagles until the cap works.

Stralman and Aston-Reese could be signed to PTOs most likely since they haven't been signed so they might sign for veteran minimum as well to lower the cap hit.
