Description

The penguins will be a very competitive team next year. And will be for a couple years more after that to a lesser degree. Then a rebuild will follow.

My weird hot take-ish question is, am I the only one that is kind of excited for the rebuild in a weird way? Don’t get me wrong I hope the team makes the playoffs the next 3 years and wins a Stanley cup. I am very excited that the team will be good and I don’t want them to rebuild yet. But I am also very interested in the prospect/scouting portion of the game and in my entire time as a penguins fan they haven’t missed the playoffs once.

I included on the team some players I think could be a part of the future penguins teams. I feel like a couple of these guys could end up being hidden gems like Plante, Svejkosky, and Puustinen. Blomqvist really doesn’t have a ceiling after the monster season he just had in Finland. Pickering could be an absolute horse - if he can grow his offensive game which we saw in spurts last year he could be the steal of the draft.

As a Detroit fan who really got more involved as we were coming out of the playoff seasons and into the rebuild, it's tough but super fun to think what could be. Considering the last time the penguins were in a rebuild you got MAF, Crosby, Malkin and Letang just to make a few, a rebuild would seem pretty exciting again.

I am very excited for the eventual rebuild. The tough losing seasons make the winning seasons more special. I think it will be exciting to see us draft early and get young new talent and watch them play. Plus hockey is just such a fun sport even when your team is bad it's still very entertaining. Don't get me wrong, I still hope we contend for a few more years, but trying to see some positives too with rebuilding.
