Think of it as Dvorak and $2.5MM of cap space for Jones and a late first. I argue that this is good value because Dvorak is an incredible fit for the Rangers for the following reasons.
1. Cost. Dvorak costs only $4.45MM for the next several seasons, a lot cheaper than the going rate for a 2C.
2. Stylistic fit. Dvorak is the perfect passenger winger, someone who is able to fit with more skilled linemates and produce with their help. He would be a great match with Panarin and would likely hit career highs in points to a significant degree. Dvorak has always played in depressed offensive environments (either under Tocchet in Arizona or Ducharme in Montreal) and his true talent with skilled wingers was flashed when St. Louis took over. IMO he could be a 60+ point 2C next to Panarin who can fill in as a bumper in case of a Kreider injury AND be the Rangers go-to man on faceoffs.
With these reasons in mind, I believe that this is a solid trade for both sides, especially given that the 1st rounder is guaranteed to be late or else it's two 2nd picks.
Also, the Rangers get Corey Schueneman, who could be a nice late blooming puck-mover to play next to Schneider's more physical game at a cheap rate.
