Doesn't make any sense for the Oilers to trade for Bertuzzi this season given his vaccination status

I do agree. It doesn't make sense for most teams to trade for him before next season. Now here is a post from sensonfire:

1. Bertuzzi is well-known for being an anti-vaxxer.

2. He refuses to receive a single dose of the COVID-19 Vaccine.

3. He can not cross the border into a Canada and play any of the 7 Canadian teams in the NHL.

4. There are 4 divisions in the NHL and the Metro Division is the only one that doesn't have any Canadian teams.

5. The Metro Division is in the Eastern Conference.

6. There are 3 Canadian teams in the Eastern Conference, but 4 in the Western Conference.

7. The NHL scheduling format prioritizes that each team play their games within the division before going outside of it.

8. That is why the Metro Division will give the most value for Bertuzzi.

9. The Central Division is a close second because you only need to worry about Winnipeg.

10. The Pacific and Atlantic Divisions are dead last.

11. The Pacific Division because they have 3 Canadian teams + 1 other in-conference team (Winnipeg).

12. The Atlantic Division because they have 3 Canadian teams + Detroit and some GMs have little tolerance for trading within the division.

I think he did an excellent job of breaking it down.

Vaccination status aside for Bertuzzi, that is not a very good offer.

Is it enough? No I don't think it is. Bertuzzi is almost at a point a game with a ppg of .96 Edmonton has only 2 players with a higher ppg. Bertuzzi has improved every single season and his production has been good and consistent. He has done this on one of the worst teams in the league. Archibald is 27 played 3 games this season and is UFA, but he is probably only there to make the cap work. Which you are over by just over $500K. I remember looking at Samorukov about 3 seasons ago when Oilers fans wouldn't stop the AA to Edmonton trades (and just over a season and a half later AA became an Oiler) and thought he be a good player to include in a AA trade. 3 years later he has only played in 1 game and now projects as a 3rd pair dman. Lavoie is the best player coming to Detroit in this trade but he currently projects as a middle 6 winger. Even if Detroit traded Bertuzzi and Zadina winger still wouldn't be a position of need.

No. It would start with a 1st and one of Bourgault or Holloway. But the point is moot unless Edmonton knows something about Canada's vaccination policy that we don't.
