Description
As you can tell by my handle, not a Dallas fan or follower. I was just curious to know if a Petry trade to Dallas could work for them financially without Habs needing to retain any money.

Obviously, the dollar amounts for some resigning are probably off as I don't know these players and their history. I think they resign Pavelski but would have to think the cap hit needs to be much lower than this year at his age. I wonder if dangling a two year extension for a 38 yr old this summer gets it done. Also, would imagine there would be some performance bonuses as well. For Radulov, not sure that Dallas should bring him back - reason I did just one year extension.

Lines might not be correct but think this could be a really solid team that would contend for playoffs and could maybe surprise once their at the dance.

Even if the contract dollars are off and need adjusting, they still have nearly $6M to work with.

I feel like the logical question here is:

"Why send a 1st+prospect off for a 34 year old, coming off an abysmal year, and getting stuck through his age 35, 36 and 37 years, when you could just spend an extra mil, keep the assets, and extend Klingberg?"

Aging curves are historically accurate, and hoping that Petry will bounce back is a pretty foolish risk to take for this price.

Aging curve are mostly applied to player that haven’t been good skater their entire career. If you look at guy’s that have had longevity success they all had one thibg in common they where able to move their feet. This is why he will bounce back successfully and probably have the same or better succes then with the Habs that where a pretty bad team for the past 4 years.

Shea Weber is the prime example of you being on the wrong end here. Players age, they get slower. When they get slower, they need to make quicker decisions. Superstar players? Sure, the speed thing might apply as much to them, but Jeff Petry ain't no superstar.
