Description
If these aren't good enough returns for Gio/Copp, that's fine, I don't think the Wild should pursue trades that are any costlier then.

Don't think that gets Gio...best LD that's likely on the market (Aside from Hampus Lindholm if he ends up on the block).

I'm still kinda torn on whether the Jets will sell or just roll with what they've got...can't see them being buyers or sellers, but I'm kinda surprised they're in the situation that they're in. All of the sudden they're a tweener team, which is a bad place to be in when you've got so many long term deals...

That would be pretty easy for Winnipeg to turn down. Rask is a huge downgrade, more expensive and a UFA and the Jets can fit his cap hit in.

The old, I want your good player for nothing valuable in return offer. Oh, yeah and retain on him too.

Yeah, if Gio costs more than that, that's understandable. I'd say good luck to Seattle on getting a good return then.

And Winnipeg is definitely in a tough spot. If they think they can sneak in to the playoffs, I could see them standing pat to see what happens. Wheeler is still a good player, but I bet that $8.25M would be real helpful to them in the offseason if they could push that off the books, otherwise I see them having to let Copp walk for nothing since they'll surely pay PLD.

I don't think the Jets are going to make it to the playoffs, as the new coach (.500) has a worse record than the old coach (.554). They would need to win 60-65% of the points available to the end of the season to get WC2 and then the reward would be being torched by COL or VGK. The Jets should listen to offers on all of their UFAs -- Copp, Stastny, Beaulieu, Seuss -- though only Copp and Stastny have a chance of bringing back a decent return.

I could see the Jets doing what the Blues did the year they traded Shattenkirk and still made the playoffs. If an offer comes their way that would be silly to say no to, they're probably not going to do much in the playoffs so getting an asset or 2 for an expiring deal wouldn't be a bad idea.

Sadly, I think the year I referenced for the Blues was the year Jake Allen stood on his head and they beat the Wild in round 1 after they gave up a bunch of assets for Hanzal at the deadline. Being a Minnesota fan is to know pain. lol
