I think for Colorado, this would be an instance of spending significant assets for what would be a more marginal upgrade. That’s not to say that Chychrun himself is marginally better than Girard. I think Girard is a very solid top 4 D, while Chychrun is a legit top pair D with the opportunity to be a true #1. But with Makar, Toews, and Byram in Colorado, Chychrun would probably slot into a similar role as Girard. They wouldn’t have the role to offer Chychrun to make acquiring him worth the cost.

On the flip side, I think Arizona could get a more effective package back. Chychrun should command a massive return. I would go as far as to say he could get AZ as much as Eichel got Buffalo, in part because of his age and his extremely team-friendly contract. There should be teams out there with better packages to offer.

I wonder about LA, especially now that Bergevin is there. Would they be willing to part with Alex Turcotte? Maybe Philly, depending on how they decide to approach their future.

Yeah Chychrun and Girard, now explain to me why COL would add a prospect and a 1st? Such an easy decline. Chychrun had a monster career type year last year, I’ll take Girard all day over Chychrun who would just be sliding into Girard’s role not upgrading because he sure as heck isn’t better than Makar or Toews.

I don’t think Chychrun is better than Girard. Chychrun had a monster goal season last year shooting 50% over his career average. His metric numbers aren’t any better than Girard’s, and let’s be honest he was a solid top pairing type before last year but nothing to get excited about, and he’s had all of this year to show he is a legit top pairing guy as the undisputed guy in AZ, and that has been underwhelming. If he were a true #1 dman at 23yr old with 3 yr more seasons beyond this why in the world is AZ listening to offers when they need high end talent? Armstrong is a pretty sharp guy and it just all smells of selling high to me.

But that goes without saying you’re right he is definitely not what the Avs are looking for especially for all the extra add before. You make a good point about LA and Turcotte though.
