I think for Colorado, this would be an instance of spending significant assets for what would be a more marginal upgrade. That’s not to say that Chychrun himself is marginally better than Girard. I think Girard is a very solid top 4 D, while Chychrun is a legit top pair D with the opportunity to be a true #1. But with Makar, Toews, and Byram in Colorado, Chychrun would probably slot into a similar role as Girard. They wouldn’t have the role to offer Chychrun to make acquiring him worth the cost.
On the flip side, I think Arizona could get a more effective package back. Chychrun should command a massive return. I would go as far as to say he could get AZ as much as Eichel got Buffalo, in part because of his age and his extremely team-friendly contract. There should be teams out there with better packages to offer.
I wonder about LA, especially now that Bergevin is there. Would they be willing to part with Alex Turcotte? Maybe Philly, depending on how they decide to approach their future.
