Why would the Rangers make that LA deal?

Not sure what LAK FO or their fans' assessment of Kupari and Kaliyev is...but on paper that trade does seem to address both team's needs. I have been slow to give up on Chytl...but as time goes by he does seem more cut out for the wing than C (not sure why he's not moved to wing here). With the C's LA has- can really see him blossoming into a force out there.

I guess dependent upon the CAP effects of Eichel's and others' return- the VGN trade does help both teams now- and VGN might even have some futures value in Hajek and the pick.

The Pav trade...not looking to re-litigate this with you- just putting it out there in case someone else cares to chime in: I just can't get there...the most I'd give for a pure rental is what we got for Zuc: a 2nd and a 3rd...maybe add one of the prospects who may project to an NHL future- but is buried in the NYR prospect chart. I'm sorry- but the 1st you are looking to move should be a mid to upper 20's pick in a DEEP draft...should they keep the pick- the player they pick might just be a stud -who enables them to make a difficult decision or two over the next few years when they hit CAP hell.

I’ve got to disagree from the Kings perspective. The kings have been defensively sound with Edler and Walker out of the lineup, what they need badly is goal scoring. None of the assets they are getting addresses that. And losing two potential scoring prospects seems like a move in the wrong direction.

If you don’t believe Chytl can turn a corner with the Kings and/or you don’t believe in the potential Miller has…then this deal is not for you.

From the NYR perspective I’m not certain what Kupari or Kaliyev would bring here- but in theory it does seem the Rangers would be dealing players from a position of strength to fulfill needs going forward. Seems LA would be doing the same- but if you don’t think so, fair enough.

I’m not sure the Rangers are dealing from a position of strength, they need top-6 center prospects and the Kings have plenty. What the Kings need is goal scoring wingers, but I don’t see the Rangers giving those up.

It’s not that I don’t think those players are good. It’s more that Kupari is younger and has a similar stat line to Chytl for the season, Kupari’s stock is rising while Chytil’s is falling. The Kings need goal scoring, and Kaliyev is the Kings only graduate pure goal scorer at this time.

Miller would be a great LD to bolster our top-4, but that isn’t an area of concern as much as goal scoring. Which is the Kings primary need at this point.
