Description
These are some of the earlier moves in Gorton's NYR tenure. Just a snapshot of some types of trades. Exact value exchanged and teams/players involved can be adjusted. I think we can look forward to some more "meaty" movements, instead of tinkering on the fringes of the roster and unreasonable dollars invested in depth over top end talent.

1. Etem for Jensen (+ a 6th)
A swap of 1st rounders. They were later in the round picks that never really worked out, but I could see him taking a similar swing with more promising players. The LA trade is just one such example.

2. 4th for Nick Holden
Spending low picks on players cherry picked from other prospect pools, is something you just don't see enough of. Montreal has been sitting on poor RHD depth, and there are definitely RHD out there. Puutio is a 5th round pick who should at least be good enough for the AHL and go from there.

3. Brassard (+7th) for Zibanejad (+2nd)
More established player for an up-and-comer. Dube likely doesn't surpass Toffoli, but this is just an example.

4. Brendan Smith for 2nd + 3rd
Grabbing an available D man with some experience and good years left, as opposed to picking D men in the draft that are a few years out.

5. DeAngelo (+ 1st) for Stepan and Raanta
Simply selling off players for a decent return. Again, an example of a type of trade. Obviously there would need to be some cap juggling if Drouin and Allen were traded to Pittsburgh. There may also be similar trades that make sense with other teams.

I like the LA trade for both sides.

Don't see any incentive there for Seattle tho. Pittsburgh doesnt seem like they're gonna be trading picks any more.

Any alternative ideas?
Trying to keep close to the original trades, but it might take something else for Seattle to replace one of the picks.
I understand Pittsburgh maybe not trading picks, but this could be their last hurrah with Malkin and Letang. Again though, this is just one example.

Dunn is their highest upside defenseman. Last year many mock trades were north of a first, and that was when STL was rumored to be selling him. His value is higher now IMO. First + Romanov or First + Norlinder is likely their ask. Maybe they'll do a different D spec if a 2nd is added.

I don't see a deal with PIT unless its for Zucker 1 for 1.

I know you're not the biggest Caufield fan on earth, but most MTL fans wouldn't do the deal.

Vilardi is too much of a question mark given his head-injury issues. Caufield looks like the real deal, he's flying on the ice and is always in a shooting good spot (but the system prefers Petry's weak point shots over having a lethal shooter constantly on the PP). He's just given worse opportunities to succeed than 26 year-olds AHL call-ups for some reason.

Perhaps Dunn is the wrong target then. The 2nd and 3rd will be early in their respective rounds, but point taken.

Zucker just doesn't work. That's a completely different trade from the example. Has to be a pick and prospect at least.

While I can agree, there may be a trade out there to move Caufield for a similarly valued Center. Doesn't have to be Vilardi.
