I know a lot of people like to point out at Dubas for handing these large contracts to top players, but the problems within this team have been prevalent since the Matthews era first began under Lou. He wasted assets on unnecessary players while the team was in rebuild phase, inherited one of the worst defence cores of all time consisting of Zaitsev, Polak, Hunwick and Hainsey while signing multiple cap dumps like Marleau, Komarov and Martin. Basically Dubas had to clean up this mess, he's had to trade many good players with little leverage and now that he's finally assembled a contender, the players have failed him due to the pressure. It's a sickening situation to analyze and feels like a curse.
