In his first of three offseason moves, Lou makes a pre-expansion draft trade with the Seattle Kraken; sending prospects Kieffer Bellows and Sebastian Aho along with a 2021 4th round pick in order to get them to select the expiring contract of Leo Komarov in the expansion draft- Islanders get the Kraken's 7th round pick in 2022 in exchange

For three consecutive seasons, the Islanders won't have a first round pick- sending their 2022 1st rounder to Steve Yzerman and the Detroit Red Wings along with a same year third round pick and two prospects including heralded blue liner Robin Salo just to get rid of Andrew Ladd's contract. Lou is able to pull this off only after paying the LW his 3 million bonus on July 1st, leaving only one such remaining payment. A modest 6th round pick comes back his way

Lou's final offseason trade sends Thomas Hickey's expiring deal and Michael Dal Colle as well as two draft picks (2nd and 6th) to the Ottawa Senators for a 4th round pick

Dal Colle reunites with his old coach where he blossomed as a youngster and the Senators buyout Hickey's deal for an 833K two-year hit
